Knew it was coming. Bryan did an interview with Meltz shortly after his AEW debut and he talked about how his kids getting older has changed a lot of what he prioritizes. I forget the exact quote, but he did mention as much as he loves wrestling, he's now at the point where he'd rather not do anything that could make it so he couldn't play catch with his son or go on hikes with his daughter.

It's just so nice seeing him do precisely what he wants to do on his terms more or less because anytime we see this dude appear now, it will be a blessing. And I think above anyone else in the wrestling industry, he's deserved that.

Of course two of the top comments on that Tweet are along the lines of "Poor Danielson, if he had stayed in WWE instead he'd have wrestled 10 more years, the unsafe AEW style broke him" and I really just f***ing hate some people. You wonder why I don't discuss wrestling many other places than here, because some people are literally braindead and have to make it some tribal bullshit over whatever Danielson decides to do.
Let's just ignore Danielson broke his arm on an elbow drop from Okada too btw, the most normal wrestling spot of all f***ing time.

He could have stayed there and wrestled another 10 years, sure, but he'd have been...yknow...stuck in WWE for 10 years. It was a place he evidently didn't want to stay so what's 10 more years of it going to do for him. Instead he's now got much more freedom, he can do things like wrestle Okada, come out to Final Countdown, show up in another promotion if he really wants to, actually call himself a wrestler, work a harder, faster style, tell someone he's going to kick their f***ing head in, list goes on. He had a great run in WWE but he's having better matches in AEW and you can see he always looks like he's having the time of his life. You see similar with Mox, people saying he needs to go back to WWE and be the comedy doofus because he's too violent now, completely ignoring that Mox wants to do what he's doing now and hated what he was doing then.
Bryan's in a perfect situation really, he's giving himself a year to do all the matches he wants to do before stopping being full time, but not officially retiring so anything cool he didn't get chance to do he can do down the line, as well as coming back to work with new guys as they come in.

People just need to stop acting like him going to AEW did this or the "AEW Style" did this when at this point, WWE and AEW's styles are damn near the same, and any injuries he got were from spots that'd happen in any WWE match.
It's annoying and complete doomposty tribal bullshit. Danielson isn't even retiring, he's just slowing down, and that can change at any time depending on the right situation and feud. But he's doing what he wants, and this likely would have happened if he'd stayed in WWE anyway.

That line of reasoning just conveniently ignores the number of times Danielson got injured in WWE, too. He had a couple of world title reigns cut short due to injury. Even had to retire for awhile because of them.

Crazy to me how a routine Elbow Drop from Okada might've been a straw breaking moment for Danielson doing a ton of dream stuff like a G1 because it'd suck if he never participates in one, that'd be a huge What If in my book
