The Sandman v Sabu Stairway to Hell at whatever show that was (House Party? Something.) was really good on Sandman's part. Obviously Sandman's never getting technical or anything like that but it's a memorable match, and it's not just his entrance that's good. He's one of my faves.

Rikishi and Val Venis in a cage at Fully Loaded 2000 might be the only double qualifier.

It was probably a carry job, but Sable's debut match at Wrestlemania XIV(tagging with Marc Mero against Goldust and Luna) was fun. She came off as a hellcat ready to tear Luna limb from limb. Too bad she couldn't replicate that side of her in future matches. Then again, the Attitude Era was a low point in women's wrestling.

Rikishi and Val Venis in a cage at Fully Loaded 2000 might be the only double qualifier. I thought Rikishi was quite versatile for a big man and Morley was apparently the stand out talent of the batch of Canadian kids they signed in 96/97 scouted by Bret's business manager Carl De Marco who came up training together (E&C and Test the others who made it to TV) I think after the Venis character got him over he just decided not to challenge himself and go to the next level. Perhaps he didn't think the risks to his body were worth it but he had potential at one point. Shane's two matches at WM15 and Summerslam 99 are mine as they are Shane's second and third matches ever I believe. Also neither involved Shane trying to kill himself as he did in future matches to make them memorable. WM had X-Pac as an ideal opponent (for a lot of mediocre wrestlers their best match would be one with Waltman as the opponent) and was over booked in the right way to hide that there wasn't going to be a lot of wrestling. Summerslam is probably more impressive as Test was a fellow rookie. Heavily involved in both matches were the Mean Street Posse, obviously seen as a joke as they were booked as one but in hindsight they were vital to Shane's matches. Around this time WCW were putting David Flair in the ring on PPV which failed due to his poor in ring skills and he had as much training and experience as Shane so certainly a contrast.

British Bulldog vs. The Warlord at Mania VII.
For two roided up muscle guys, it was a surprisingly fast paced fun match.

Vince vs Hogan street fight at Mainia 19 is way more fun than it has any right to be.

British Bulldog vs. The Warlord at Mania VII. For two roided up muscle guys, it was a surprisingly fast paced fun match. Bulldog has had a host of classics, most obviously Summerslam 92 with Bret. But he also had a host of others, notably vs Owen Hart in Germany and the later (often overlooked) bloody match he had with Bret at In Your House in late 95. And this doesn’t even get into his time as one half of the British Bulldogs - so many there especially v the Dream Team at WM2. Warlord though is fair comment. Don’t think he had a better match that with Davey Boy at WM7, although his match with Tito at Summerslam 90 was passable. It didn’t help him that he seemed to wrestle Davey Boy for the whole of 1991. I do have a soft spot for Powers of Pain v Demolition & Mr Fuji at WM5, but it’s probably slightly beneath Davey Boy powering out of the full Nelson and carrying the big lug in the powerslam position for an unnecessary length of time.

Vince vs Hogan street fight at Mainia 19 is way more fun than it has any right to be. Imagine telling a fan in 1979 watching WWWF programming that the announcer and the big guy he's interviewing with Blassie were gonna tear down the house and be jumping off ladders and going through tables in a baseball stadium when they are both in their 50s.

Umaga is another not-great worker that Big Match John got a really good match out of.
It's weird to say this about him because of how big he was, but John Cena was one of the most underrated ring generals around.

Idk if I'd call him "bad" necessarily, but anytime Batista got into the ring with Undertaker, especially at Wrestlemania 23, they tore the house down imo, and definitely exceeded everyone's expectations.

Warrior was good at holding a crowd in his hands but a thoroughly mediocre wrestler. I’d say that Savage pulled two classics out of him at Wrestlemania VII and Summerslam 92, the latter of which took a lot of outside chicanery and the involvement of two other GOATs.

El Gigante/Giant Gonzeles in the twilight of his career in Japan (possibly his final two matches ever if I recall correctly) were against Chris Jericho and Great Muta, and both were his best work since his television debut. The closing moment of his Muta match in particular is an unforgettable visual.

They both used to be on Dailymotion waaaaaaay back in the wild west days of internet video hosting sites. I just looked and there is a Gigante vs Muta on YouTube but the quality requires some endurance. I sadly can't seem to find the Jericho match though.

Vladimir Koslov had a really good TV match where he went over Undertaker clean 6 weeks before WrestleMania 25. I can't speak for his Japanese work, but Festus has a great undertaker match around this time too, just a pure brawl I loved that match. I thought Taker put him over pretty good with his body language/facial expressions as the match wore on. Kinda like "damn, can't keep this big bastard down"

Severn never translated well into pro wrestling but this match was very good.

Barry Horowitz and Owen Hart had a banger on one of WWE's weekend TV shows way back in the day.
