Is Crown Jewel to LA Knight What WM 13 Was to Austin?

In most people’s opinion, LA Knight doesn’t really have a chance at taking the belt off of Roman at Crown Jewel but could this be his Wrestlemania 13?

The “I Quit” match solidified the white hot Austin as a top guy and we all know what happened from there. How can Knight lose and come out of this stronger? Cena turning on him? A brutal match that ends relatively clean? Pass out in the guillotine due to blood loss like Austin did to the sharpshooter?

But the big difference here is that Austin was not gunning for the top prize or top guy...YET , yes Bret was a top guy but he was not the champion and so the loss IMO atleast never felt like a set back...instead it felt like what it was a guy becoming undeniable and on the rise and when he finally got to the main guy he beat him.

LA Knight on the other hand is having a title match with the absoloute top guy that if he loses has nowhere to go but back down the card....people to me can say all they want about Logan Paul is gonna give so much attention to LA Knight...ok but to me does not change the fact that it is setting LA Knight back if that plan holds.

He wont win the rumble and go onto to main event Mania...something Austin would go onto do after the Bret match to cement his status as the guy.

For LA Knight it is as much about how this match ends for him as much as it will be what he does post crown jewel from here on out and as of right now...not a single person has him winning the rumble let alone main eventing Mania and for as hot as he is now...not doing those considering people wanna draw the parallels to Austin on his rise will be an absoloute waste.

LAK losing in November doesn’t necessarily need to be world champion by April as long as he’s still being heavily featured and is over.

This is all great, but Austin did get a PPV title match against Undertaker a couple months after the double turn and lost, which actually might make for a better comparison provided the next time Knight gets a shot, he wins.

Roman wins, and the loser goes nowhere and doesn't look any better coming out of it, and he goes onto the next challenger

I'd be hesitant to compare anyone to Austin, The Rock, Hogan or Cena tbh, they are special talents and I'm not saying LA Knight isn't but if he is to become top tier, then he will follow his own path.

It's so hard to "follow up" after losing to Roman because the only real options are: lose to Roman again, beat one of his cronies, walk away from Roman


And for the most part all three of those are downers. Sami and KO pulled it off but it required like a year+ of storylines, wrestlemania and the Usos holding the tag titles forever. That's like saying "all it takes to win the Superbowl is win every single game you play. No big deal."

There's nowhere to go after Roman. Can't even get a rematch since Roman doesn't wrestle enough. It's weird because every loss is protected due to all the outside interference, but the loser still feels so weak since they just have to accept it. They move on to someone lesser than Roman.

Cena is the only "active" guy that would not feel like a huge step down from Roman. But even with the name value of Cena, in-ring he's lost a lot of luster. That Theory loss left a lot of stink on Cena, so much that they are acknowledging him being on a losing streak. Who would think we could get to a point where you would need to heat up Cena.

I’d say it’s more so what Backlash 2003 was to Cena. He got a wwe title match and was pushed pretty hard in 2003, in 2004 he won the US title at mania (which is what looks like is gonna happen with Knight in 2024). Maybe Knight gets his moment at Mania 41?

The outside interference doesn't do much in terms of protection, since it's always one of The Bloodline interfering and the contender looks dumb for not being proactive and doing anything to counter it.

It's one of the factors that makes Romans Reign such a slog.

That's a fair comparison but I'd also argue Knight is more over now than Cena was during that time. That felt more like a moment where stuff was starting to click in comparison since it seems abundantly clear Knight has been a top guy for a while.

As others have said, it's all about the follow up because, like A Platypus Rave said, there hasn't been much for anyone not named Cody Rhodes in terms of being in that title picture.
