I'm not unconvinced that Angel Hernandez isn't doing it on purpose to see how flagrantly bad he can be. Makes me feel for the umpires who are genuinely good at calling like Pat Hoberg because of clowns like this.
Also, the Yankees bore the hell out of me and I hate that they always seem to have Cleveland's number when they come by.

I think this Shota Imanaga kid is gonna be pretty good, 3 starts so far for him and hes posted a 0.00 ERA with 16 strikeouts and only 2 base on balls.

Cody Poteet looked really good tonight. I'd like to see more of him. Kind of crazy, the Yankees, even without Cole, have gotten... very stable pitching from their five starters out the gate A very big reason they currently have the top record, but having a guy like Poteet if any of these guys get hurt is pretty good.

I know some fans don't want to admit it, but the pitching wasn't too bad last year. Shit, the pitching carried the Yankees for a good portion of the year. It was the offense outside of Judge and Gleyber that was the issue. Rizzo's also exempt from blame for how bad the offense was, due to the Yankees putting him out there constantly while injured.

Yankees BP has carried them for the last few years when the Starters have faltered and fell off. The itching last year was not bad, as said it was offense Yankees biggest thing over the last 5 years is health. If the team can stay healthy they have a chance. Soto has been everything they could have wanted so far and this is without Judge getting hot yet

Also on the Dodgers front, thank you Dodgers for giving the Cubs Michael Busch for a autographed 8x10 of Bill Murray! Kid has been outstanding and has hit home runs in 3 straight games so far.

Is it supposed to be a roller-coaster every time this Kimbrel guy closes a game?

Make that 4 games in a row for Michael Busch hitting a home run!!
Also, this game ended in a crazy way for a nice Cubs victory! It used to drive me nuts when we would play Milwaukee and Craig would do these challenges in the 9th and cost Cubs a runner and the ballgame. but damn im happy hes our manager now and doing challenges to end the game! Fantastic pick off at first for Alzolay to end the game!! I still dont like him as a closer but right now hes all we have.

It also speaks to just how ridiculously loaded the Dodgers organization is. They couldn’t find room for that guy.

Well, hey...the Mets just might not suck!
All seriousness, if Jose Butto is for real, that significantly changes the equation with this team; Butto looked strong last year, had a great spring, and now has a couple really good starts in the bigs early this season, so if he at least settles into being a decent mid-rotation arm it gives the Mets the depth they need to avoid what happened to them last season. Hopefully he keeps running with this opportunity; Mendoza says the spot is his now, especially with Senga and Megill out, so let's see what he can do. It'd be nice to get to a point where most of the arms are healthy and they could potentially slot Megill and Houser into the bullpen to give that more depth, too.
It's funny; they went into last season as potential playoff favorites due to having Scherzer and Verlander at the top of the rotation, but both guys are up there in age and ran into injuries or less effectiveness. They hoped they could rely on their depth after that, but so many guys were hurt last year, too, that they ended up scraping the bottom of the barrel for starting arms. This year, they, they entered the season with more mid-range arms (e.g. Houser), guys with some upside if they can work out some issues (Severino), and better health among their depth pieces (Butto, Lucchesi, etc.), and that could end up making the difference. Would also be nice if JD Martinez could get healthy and into the lineup; the Mets' DH's have been fine so far, but they need that extra right handed power in the lineup as the year goes on.
Also, it was just really nice to have a 2-1 pitchers duel on the day the Mets retired Doc Gooden's number.
ETA: Looking at how awful Angel Hernandez has been...this dude's gonna be the reason they go to robot umps/automated strike zone, isn't he? I really don't like the idea of doing that, but guys like him make it seem inevitable.

Longtime Yankees radio voice John Sterling is retiring effective immediately. He will be honored at Yankee Stadium this Satuday.
Whatever you think of him as a broadcaster, it's the end of an era.

I cannot believe how well the Cubs have started off the season. I was pessimistic with their offseason moves and still am reserving judgement as it is a long season. Busch looks like he could be a fleecing. The irony is not lost on me that the best player on the roster could be a guy named Busch.
I hope no ill will on John Sterling, but the broadcasts suddenly became better. How anyone could listen to him broadcast is beyond me.
