Just realizing that the thread I bumped was actually 2 years old, and seeing our past holiday music threads, I figured I'd initiate the 2023 edition.
Our two stations that change to 24/7 Christmas, Magic 98.3, and Lite FM 106.7, started this week.
What's odd is, in the times I've listened to either, I have heard a Mariah Carey song exactly ONCE. No, not That Song, either...
A while back I found the Square Pegs box set, for cheap at Dollar General. I am dismayed to hear that the Christmas episode will dub over the Waitresses (you know, who SING THE THEME SONG).

The local classic hits station went Christmas about half an hour ago. Started off with Last Christmas.

SiriusXM launched its holiday channels ten days ago. I’ve been listening off and on, but not too much so I won’t get sick of them before December starts.
Fortunately the service has many more options for holiday music so I try to listen to genres other what gets played on FM radio. Like Holiday Chill-Out (downtempo music), Holiday Pops (classical music), Cool Jazz Christmas, and Holiday Instrumentals. I’ll check out Spotify’s holiday playlists too.

I only have a short drive to work so I don't really listen to radio. At work I'm often on the production floor where there is no music. Still, I have some Christmas albums and playlists set up so that when I can listen to music there will be some Christmas music.

I've noticed they don't play "Fairy Tale in New York" on the Radio anymore.
Guess they finally realised they weren't singing about Meatballs.

What's odd is, in the times I've listened to either, I have heard a Mariah Carey song exactly ONCE. No, not That Song, either... Well a handful of times now, but still the exception not the rule. And it's been her "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)." No sighting of her, ahem, better-known song yet. I wonder if the stations finally realized that less is more, and/or since Mariah is now officially considered a holiday icon, they want to make when we do hear You Know What a special event. (EDIT: And it's working. I'm actually going to mark out the first time I hear it. I have my reasons.) I have this suspicion that they're saving it for after Thanksgiving, though.

The one by me switched last Thursday, and the song I 1st heard was indeed All I Want Is Christmas by Mariah Carey. I don't mind the song, but like most I would be fine only hearing it a few times and not 300 between now and Christmas.

So maybe my theory was correct about being closer to Thanksgiving. Now, has anyone's radio market actually banned Baby It's Cold Outside? Despite the fuss about it, I still hear numerous versions daily. (The sillier/campier the song is performed, the more tolerable it is, IMO)

Remember Wheatus? Somehow, they still exist and just dropped a Christmas single:

I don't get it. At all. It's kind of a small horse, I mean what am I missing? Am I crazy?

Question...
Which songs, despite being played regularly, do you not get tired of?
I'd put Darlene Love and "Christmas Baby Please Come Home" up there. If you don't know why, you're not Rockin' Ricky fans.

Last night I watched the final Christmas episode of The Late Show with David Letterman from 2014 where she performs it for the last time on television. Such a fabulous song and Paul's arrangements are so amazing. Watching the episode is my annual tradition as I put up decorations.

This Christmas is another that I don't tire of, despite the multiple versions and plays. I can't even think of a version I can call bad, IMO.

If you don't know why, you're not Rockin' Ricky fans. Bruce Springsteen’s versions of Merry Christmas Baby and Santa Claus is Coming to Town. Especially the latter, because I saw him and the band play it live on 12/4/02 at the Civic Arena. Awesome way to end the show. James Taylor’s version of Deck the Halls because it makes me think of Christmas in a medieval castle. TLC’s version of Sleigh Ride. I can’t explain it but the song always reminds me of a mall I used to visit as a kid and seeing it decorated for the holidays. Heck, any song from the first two Home Alone soundtracks is a winner for me. Step into Christmas, by Elton John.

KOST in Los Angeles switches over to all Christmas music on November first. Too damn early. I don’t start listening until after thanksgiving.
I just loaded up the cd player in my car with Christmas albums. Brian Setzer Orchestra, Mannheim Steamroller, two different Trans Siberian Orchestra, Doctor Demento’s Christmas album, and the Phineas and Ferb Christmas album. Doctor Doofenschmirtz singing “I Really Don’t Hate Christmas” is actually a great song.
