I finally watched this, and didn't think it outright sucked. It was just different, and probably shouldn't have happened at WrestleMania. This has probably been done to death, but what are your thoughts on it?

It probably would have been a good match if The Undertaker hadn't got his bell rung early on, instead the match sucked, but that wasn't either guys fault.

The match is a plodding bore, but I'll never forget watching the finish in real time.
Genuinely one of the most stunning moments of this past decade.

it was really boring but i also don't think the finish works to the extent it did unless it is that boring. nobody thought lesnar would actually win so i'd imagine most of us were just sitting around waiting for the undertaker comeback that never came.
that ending just hits you like a jolt of electricity, like being shaken awake in your sleep

It was a pretty godawful match to watch live but it is better on a rewatch knowing where it's going because Undertaker being out of it and barely able to move does at least fit the ending.

I was there, and after the three-count it was like all the air got sucked out of the stadium. I distinctly remember a loud BULLSHIT chant from fans in my section. Easily the biggest moment in wrestling history I saw in person.
When I got back to the hotel, the first thing I did was check the show thread. It was page after page of:
HOLY SHIT!
WHAT THE f***?!
…..
WTF IS GOING ON???

The finish was the last true great surprise in Wrestling.
Nearly 3 in the morning over here and I nearly wake the house up with a "WHAAAAAAAAAT!?"

I didn’t watch live. I enjoy rewatching it for the historical significance. I don’t know if it was the right decision or not but ballsy move from Vince nonetheless.

It wasn’t a good match but nobody ever claims it is. I’ll never forget watching it, so there’s that. WM XXX is a really amazing wrestling show.
I think Lesnar was the right choice for the guy to do it. The idea of a young star on the rise is always thrown out there but I think that would have bombed. What prospect/potential star could survive that burden? It had to be a heel, and someone they could build the company around. Which is exactly what they did with Brock for the better part of 8 or so years.
It’s like Roman’s title reign. Everyone thinks it should be Cody. Because it should be. Cody doesn’t fit that mold of a guy to be made by that match, he’s already at the top, but he is the guy they’re going to build around for 5 years or whatever.

After the amazing matches he had with HBK, and the decent match with HHH it was a shame the streak ended on a match like this.
Granted hindsight helps soften the blow, but still, what a waste.

The match was not great, and I think having Lesnar be the one to break the streak was the wrong choice. It was a surprise though.

I just remember how Undertaker asked Brock “Wanna do it?” as he walked back to the locker room immediately following his UFC loss to Cain Velasquez. We didn’t know it then but Mark was telling Brock that this match was a lock to happen if the prodigal son were to return home.

The match was poor but with hindsight we know why it was poor. It was around 3am here in Ireland and when the three count happened I was genuinely shocked. I remember the crowd reaction watching it live was like hearing the realisation moving like a sound wave.

Yeah as stated it's hard to recreate the live watching experience. Even at the 3rd F-5 I was like "nah he ain't losing"

I accidentally ate too much of an edible (I forgot how to talk while ordering a sandwich in college and ran back to my dorm) and woke up right as Taker got dropped on his head and I thought that him losing was a dream. Both because it didn't seem possible and because watching a fake deadman look actually dead while 60000 people were in stunned silence was too much for my brain to handle

The match, much like Suplex City, isn't good, per se, but it didn't matter. The result was all that mattered. (Whereas Suplex City the first time works because it's Cena, but they took the wrong lesson away from it and just had Brock stop trying to actually do anything dynamic in most of his matches unless he actually was excited about working a guy, like with Finn.)

For me in an ideal world, Roman Reigns would have been the one to end the streak at WrestleMania 33 and then evolves into the Tribal Chief after.
The reaction would have been amazing to watch.

I was barely paying attention to the match since Taker was obviously winning and I was already annoyed about it as a Brock fan. I'll never forget the absolute eerie silence when the Streak ended, watching it live.

Yeah, wondering how many people are in the boat of nearly missing the end cause they'd tuned out. I recall even during the match, as it devolved into a clunker, people had taken to spitballing how Brock could be rehabbed from yet another big loss.
You have to wonder how much it sticks in the craw on both UT and Brock that such a big deal like the streak came to an end on the heels of a subpar match, though it being no fault of either man in fairness. You could argue people were only ever going to remember the end.
