So with the signing of Ric Flair it looks like it's not going to happen. Is a run from the former Dean a missed opportunity for AEW?

At least he wouldn't be all borderline jailbaiting in the promos. Download that f***ing car now!

His Barely Legal 1997 match is still going to this day so I don't think he ever had the time for it.

As someone who recently watched Slammiversary 2009 where Christopher Daniels faces Shane Douglas wheezing in an Under Armour shirt looking like he's holding hands with The Grim Reaper, I am conflicted

I'd rather have Shane McMahon.

No.
I would've loved a Shane Douglas run in AEW.

No. He didn't drop off the radar like PCO or retire like Tully, he was around for the 2000s, every time someone wanted to flip the corpse of ECW, he'd be there. He wasn't someone with something to prove, he was beat up even before ECW closed and he hasn't gotten healthier since then, and it'll take a long time for him to wash away the smell of some of the places he's worked in the meantime.
If a guy has unfinished business or something to prove, I'm all for a run, but Shane is very much in the Ric Flair camp of having done all he can and is physically capable of at this point.

Dean Douglas is where it's at.

Remember when he was profiled by The Washington Post in 2017 and was jovial laughing as Dominic Denucci calling a former President a hard-r racial slur?
That was the moment I was done with him forever. It doesn't help that he starred in the absolute most unwatchable "film" in the Troma library.

To do what?
He's too old and out of shape to wrestle. TNA tried him with other things like being a manager or on commentary and he was horrible at them. Maybe he might have something to offer in a backstage role like agent/producer, but on-camera? No, I can't see what he'd have to offer anymore.

Shane Douglas was to ECW what Jeff Jarrett was to TNA IMO.

Yeah, like I have basically no good will towards him, but even if I did, I don't really see what he'd add to anything. We did have Samoa Joe basically throw the TV title in the trash, but we didn't miss Shane Douglas or Madusa for that event.

I wouldn’t want a Shane Douglas run if it was 2003 and he was still semi-capable in the ring, let alone 20 years later where his relevance has all but expired.

At his absolute best, Shane Douglas was the most boring part of ECW.
