No, not permanently but they’ve been doing it quite a bit if they get a whiff of an injury or concussion. The imperium tag-match with Vinci and just last night with Hayes & Theory.
Gotta say this is an awesome precedent and feel like it’s such a “duh” moment.
So many matches in the past, for the excuse of “keEpInG Up ThE aCT”, wrestlers would roughhouse their way through a match, even if severely injured as opposed to the referee just calling it.
Graves put it perfectly last night, it’s like any other sport. They’re human, they get hurt.
Granted they were both tv matches with little stakes. I’m curious if they’ll do the sane if, god forbid, something happens in a high stakes PLE match.

Undertaker/Lesnar and Undertaker/Goldberg might have benefitted from that, though 'Taker being of a different generation of training might have been against it.

I don't know how Charlotte's match wasn't stopped, knowing what we do now
How the f*** did she put on a Figure Eight and soldier on to a finish? Like legitimately insane, some of these people are built insanely different...

I’m very happy to see this lately. It needs to become ‘the norm’ to immediately stop matches when there’s an injury, especially head injuries. You don’t mess around with that sort of thing.

It's a lot more reasonable than how momentum-annihilating it got when they'd shut things down to deal with cuts. I get the "why" of it, but it was not really necessary the vast majority of the time. This makes more sense.

If it were a big time PLE match, I’d say they should do a quick finish, maybe a roll up or something like that if absolutely necessary. I don’t see them stopping say Cody/Roman or something like that

I don’t see them stopping say Cody/Roman or something like that Best example would be Austin/Owen, when Austin's neck got f***ed by the piledriver. Have the other guy stall for time while the ref assesses the seriousness of the injury and communicates with appropriate parties to quickly wrap it up. That said, sometimes, things happen and you have to just shut it down. I was at the AEW Dark taping where Leyla Hirsch tore her ACL about two minutes into the match off a top rope backflip. There was no way and no reason to try and continue that, especially since it was a taped match for YouTube.

I'm reminded of Backlash 2006, where Trish dislocated her shoulder during her match with Mickie James and they had to improvise a quick DQ finish.

I might be wrong, but if that exact situation happened today, I think you’d just have to call it. Even with the stupid stipulation involved.

Another good example is the main event of WrestleMania XXVII. The Miz clearly had his brains scrambled when he was tackled over the barricade, and you can see in his eyes that he's on a different planet when the match restarts. Fortunately, all he had to do was crawl over to cover John Cena after the Rock Bottom, but then he had to muster up the will for the post-match beatdown. I think if that happens today, Alex Riley takes the heat from The Rock and The Miz gets checked out as soon as the count of three ends the match.

People who know me know that I hate giving WWae credit for anything.
And their changes in concussion protocol originated from the Benoit situation, so it's not like wrestler wellness is their chief concern
Plus we have stories of guys working through things they shouldn't like Goldberg and Taker at the Saudi show, or Kairi that one time or even Punk with his infection during his last rub
That said
WWE are the best in the business at this. I don't think I have seen a single promotion on their scale who are as good at banning spots, moves, chairs to the head and taking shit like this seriously even when it is at the expense of either workrate or the fans wanting to see the match
Even when I was watching AEW, I still gave them shit for how bad they are for this. It is still too rare that they stop a match or prevent a wrestler from working hurt or even sick
I would always, always, *always* take more boring wrestling and dissatisfied fans over wrestler wellbeing being compromised unnecessarily

This is only a good thing and honestly, as the defecto industry leader, if there is one thing their influence should be doing is taking care of their talent. If it can make alternatives and smaller companies realize the same thing or at least have some people with first aid experience on hand, it’ll make for a better business overall.
By the way, it also means they shouldn’t be doing the BS like Cody competing at HIAC with a torn shoulder. No, I don’t care if he was still keen to go, if you want that guy to main event WrestleMania the year after, you cancel the match and tell him to go to the damn hospital and get the surgery.

I'm glad that it's the current practice and it seems to be the standard now. But I will say that there is still more work to be done on spotting injuries. I'm sure they would've stopped that four way weeks ago when Ricochet got concussed but it went unnoticed. That's probably the next major step forward for in-ring safety.

I’ve missed work because of stupid beer league sports injuries. You know you’re doing something stupid, but you try to do it anyways. It’s just dumb
