That period in time when Jim Ross would constantly call The Undertaker: "Booger Red" He explained it, I think on the podcast, that it was a reference to something football related (of course!) and because Taker had red hair. He thought it would catch on but said "it went over like a fart in church." I sort of understood when Jim Ross would go on and on about Dr Death being a standout at Oklahoma, Ron Simmons getting Heisman votes at Florida State, or Dan Spivey being a star at Georgia, because those are impressive achievements, but he would go on and on about Marcus Alexander Bagwell being a standout on the Sprayberry High School football team in Marietta, GA. From what I can tell, it's just a regular high school. It's one thing to be an Al Bundy or Uncle Rico hyping up your own generic high school sports career. It's a whole other thing doing it on someone else's behalf. I am a big Jim Ross fan but even the football references would be too much. If the Ed F. Oklahoma character didn't do the bells palsy look, I think it would have been a pretty funny character. His calling of the match with the luchas were everyone was a football standout came off like typical JR. There also seemed to be some heat with Tony and Jim which translated well with OK and Tony on the Nitro.

"The Ordinary Man Who Does Extra Ordinary Things!" Like, they were clearly going for "extraordinary", but Michael Cole always put a space between extra and ordinary so it sounded stupid. Cole would say two stupid things when Balor first debuted. The one you mentioned and then he'd call him "James Dean Cool". I remember at the time saying that I was in my late 30's and barely know who James Dean was. WWE's target demo are elementary school kids. They damn sure don't know who James Dean is. I always assumed that had to be a forced fed line from Vince to his favorite stooge (Cole). "SAY IT, DAMN IT!!!! THESE SWINGIN' CATS AND DADDI-O'S LOVE JAMES DEAN!!!"

I feel like Matt Striker has spent much of his career throwing out some of the wildest gibberish, like that Sexy Star derived her powers from the constellations. Lucha Underground's nature is such that I, to this day, do not know if it was a plot point (one which was never spoken of again, to my knowledge), or if it was just him being weird like suggesting Bao Nguyen was the "Poisoned Fist of the Orient", presumably as some kind of rib. Matt Striker can be good sometimes but he spends far too much time inventing nicknames and inserting bullshit biblical references into his commentary. I think Vampiro kind of carried him in Lucha Underground.

Some of the viewers thinking Cole said James Deen and wondering when Balor was going to feud with the lemon-stealing whores.

Honestly, they covered a fair bit of each other's weaknesses, like LU commentary wasn't perfect by any means, but the two kind of played off of each other in a way that lended to the show's identity.

I may be conflating things, then, I just remember him acting like Bao had special forces training or something, probably to either try to make beating him sound impressive, or just because he thought it'd be funny. (Which, it admittedly was funny.) Yeah, looking it up, you are right, it was Yoshi Tatsu who was the Poisoned Fist of the Pacific Rim, along with "The Storm Shadow". On that note, he called Batista "The Altered Beast" once, so he was fond of his geek references. He also claimed the "4-Up" on Elijah Burke's fist tape meant he had 4 lives on Mario, despite probably knowing full well it was in reference to "4 knuckles upside your head" for Elijah Burke's boxing gimmick. That one had to be a rib. Yoshi Tatsu wasn't just the Poisoned Fist of the Pacific Rim or the Storm Shadow, he was also (inexplicably) the TOKUGAWA SHOGUNATE and the NEON GENESIS. In short, Matt Striker deserves to burn in hell for the mental scars he's left on me.
