Was a walking corpse of itself after the mass exodus anyway
The Walker's are really the only relevant ones left and always will be, the rest moved on and flourished without them and many still are to this day on Youtube and other platforms
Lindsay Ellis returning to content creation just like last month makes this impeccable timing lol

For some reason, I thought it was already dead.

My only exposure to Doug Walker post-Change the Channel was both Lady Emily and Folding Ideas taking time to utterly eviscerate Nostalgia Critic, Channel Awesome and pretty much 9 generations of Doug Walker's family.

It's amazing how Folding Ideas took the 'angry reviewer' concept Doug pioneered and basically perfected it in his criticism of The Wall video. It's like poetry, it rhymes.

He straight up deserved that evisceration just for the part where he compares the Nazi rally to people complaining at him on twitter.

If the website is gone, what does Mike Michaud even DO anymore? He must thank his lucky stars every day Doug made the dumbass decision to give him ownership of The Nostalgia Critic because if not he'd be begging for change in the underpass. I still don't know why anyone would do such a stupid thing. Give him the rights to the Nostalgia Critic? Or demand the rights to the Nostalgia Critic? Because I've just realised how dystopian it is to be piggy-backing on Doug Walker because he is more creative than you areMy only exposure to Doug Walker post-Change the Channel was both Lady Emily and Folding Ideas taking time to utterly eviscerate Nostalgia Critic, Channel Awesome and pretty much 9 generations of Doug Walker's family. if you want more laughs at Doug and Brad's expense, Quinton Reviews did a really good video about To Boldly Flee These days I don't have guilt about most things I enjoy. But if I have any legitimately guilty pleasure, then it's seeing people dunk on Doug Walker. So thanks for the recommendation! Honestly I re-watch this and the Emily one periodically just to amuse myself

Something that always stood out to me with Doug is how any time you watch his vlog reviews if you know what he's talking about he just... routinely misunderstands completely straightforward things or seems to pay very little attention to what he's watching, or times he just ends up completely hyper-fixating on incidental parts of things. And he's somehow still way better at it than Rob is.

I really enjoyed the early Nostalgia Critic stuff. They were fairly short, funny, low-budget affairs that were perfect for watching on a train or having on while cooking dinner.
The Critic was a character, and so any of the weird stuff he fixated on made sense in the context of being that character.
Doug Walker deserved his 15 minutes of fame for those first few years of NC episodes.
But with the crossover movies, Demo Reel, and the rebooted NC stuff that incorporated all the skits and storylines and fluff just felt flat to me (and I guess to a lot of others).
Brad Jones early Cinema Snob stuff did the Nostalgia Critic’s original shtick better than Doug Walker and with the added gimmick of reviewing really obscure stuff.
Linkera does the storyline/skit stuff about as well as it can be done in that format, imo.
And the “over the top angry reviewer” role was perfected by the AVGN who had the good sense to use his success to just kind of enjoy himself and work on projects at his own pace. The AVGN movie wasn’t any great shakes, but it wasn’t to boldly flee.
I don’t know what Doug Walker’s deal is. But as far as guys getting unexpectedly famous in the early 2000s go, he probably didn’t handle it as badly as a lot of others did.

Remember when they bought a studio space and made a really bizarre game show?

Doug's vlogs at the very least are more lighthearted and you can tell where he's trying to understand something if he doesn't get it, though his Adventure Time watch through back in the day was greatly helped by having a guest for almost every episode who caught most anything he might've missed or added further conjecture. Doug having someone to bounce off of helps him a lot, especially when it isn't his brother.

Remember when they bought a studio space and made a really bizarre game show? Remember how he tried to retire Nostalgia Critic, make Demo Reel, and it didn't even last a year? And then he still tried to make the Demo Reel-ish skits work within Nostalgia Critic's reviews and a large number of people thought a lot of them were annoying as f*** and added nothing to his reviews but like 10 extra minutes of padding? Outside of the Dante Basco Zuko ones... those were good because of Dante Basco lol

Same when he did the crossover with AVGN and the Nija Turtles movie.

I think a lot of Doug's problems as a "Nostalgia Critic" is that he doesn't have any nostalgia for most of the stuff he reviewed and it shows.

Yeah, that's one of the things about Doug that I've said in the past. Unlike most of his former Channel Awesome colleagues, he's not actually a geek, he's a comedian doing an impression of a geek. He has no emotional investment in the things he's talking about, they're just things to strip mine for jokes. His review of The Wall is the perfect demonstration of this. I doubt he ever really cared about that movie before he decided to make that video. He obviously had nothing to really say about the movie. All he cared about was that he got to wear silly costumes and sing bad Weird Al parody songs about it.

Also that is an insult to Weird Al sir...

I don't know how much this contributes to the conversation, but the last thing I saw of Doug's was his Matrix NC review and I think I'd actually prefer to rub sand in my eyes than watch anything he creates.
