I forgot about the whole “fair use” thing that Doug Walker twisted himself up in knots over. Even if they did meet the guidelines for how long each clip could be (and in a lot of those early reviews, they didn’t) there’s still the issue of how each of the NC “reviews” was a collection of the best parts of the movie. Sure, maybe each clip was only 30 seconds, but there were like 20 clips from the entire running time of the movie. You could watch those clips, absent all the NC stuff, and usually get a pretty good summary of the movie. Oh, and while we’re critiquing NC reviews, can I just point out that those videos AREN’T REVIEWS. I don’t know what he thinks “reviews” are, but they’re not detailed summaries of movies with gags and snarky commentary. Sorry. Pet peeve I guess. He also usually criticised the scenes in chronological order.

A lot of the people for both Change the Channel and Channel Awesome ended up being petulant children so it's always weird to go back and revisit everything.

When it comes to fair use, music reviewers have it worse since now they're cracking down on songclips that are longer than 15 seconds (though some like Metal School get away with it, they're also not monetized). And it's kind of pointless to review a song without playing clips to show what the song sounds like.

Reading the summary is not the same as literally seeing the film. As said a lot of Doug's stuff was him showing most of the movie. Yeah, like, as much as he threw a fit over it Tommy Wiseau's attempts to block the Room review were perfectly justifiable because it really is just Doug showing you a highlight reel of most of the funny parts wrapped in some weird Back to the Future framing device for reasons. He tried to take credit for The Room becoming a huge cult classic.

THAT WAS EVEN PART OF THE REVIEW. He made a joke about why did people want to review his student film also titled "The Room". Both Rifftrax and Adult Swim beat NC to airing it by over a year, I had only heard of it when Adult Swim played it on that April Fool's day. 2008 Entertainment Weekly had a spotlight on it which is probably where Rifftrax and Adult Swim learned of it. supposedly it was known in LA in like 2005 as like a local joke.

I remember a lot of the time in crossovers they'd do a lot of, "Haha, girl!" jokes with him and I have to imagine even if it's not exactly intentional all of that stuff has aged unbelievably poorly. If you want to know how the bits have aged, Jew Wario inexplicably showed up with no shirt on like 5 minutes ago. God that f***ing JewWario rollercoaster was horrifying in real time, Heartbreak to a man taking his own life to uncovering a f***ed up dark underbelly he had created that chain reacted to essentially what Change the Channel became. Legit how is one of the most normal people to come out of this sites lineage a man named Todd in the Shadows who constantly wears a mask over his face??

Whats worse is that Doug knew and still wrote him in spots like walking in with no shirt or as David Bowie from labyrinth where the women stare at his bulge...

I think the fact he was smart enough to cover his face up from the off is a direct reflection of how he was going to survive this intact, honestly And as for Jew Wario stuff aging badly, there's always Suburban Knights, which has multiple camera shots directly at his crotch bulge

I remember Spoony particularly being really ripped up about JewWario's death, and kept a copy of his hat in the background of his reviews afterwards. And then when the details came out, he took that even harder. I do think that contributed towards his really dark and isolated years.
Then you have someone like Marzgurl putting in huge effort and money to get the Farewell FamiKamen Rider video created as tribute to JW, to finish off a long-running storyline that he created. Only to later find out as well.
Awful stuff. Like Xxc says, a real horrible rollercoaster at the time.

I remember even at the time he left the site there were already rumblings about JewWario being kind of a creep, though certainly not to the extent that later came out.

Hell, Obscurous Lupa, one of the CA creators who had a cameo IN HIS VIDEO reviewed The Room before him on their website.

Yeah, Noah took that really hard even before everything came out about JewWario and then once stuff came out it really killed his mental health. Then once Change the Channel came out, he had already been out of the community for a bit and it was like walking into the burning apartment with pizzas meme but more heartbreaking. Couldn't understand why all his friends were now in some civil war. He's thankfully in a better place now and has been doing cameos in videos from the guy who starred in Phantasmagoria 2. Man, Channel Awesome just became this massive mountain of drama in the end didn't it? With side stories that seemed to branch off from the main branch of drama.

Take me back to before I decided to watch Suburban Knights today You can really see the divide in attitude on these things since Phelous was at least trying to make that stupid character work in Suburbian Knights while he's blatantly sabotaging every scene he's in in To Boldly Flee and putting on the best performance in the movie in the process.

Very cool and awesome that there's a whole bit where Doug Walker spreads his legs out to show his whole underwear bulge and you can see dude's pubes sticking out.
