I don't think Darby would have been as cut up if he hasn't clipped a chair as he hit the glass. That caused him to bounce and created just enough separation from the glass to let the pieces shift and him hit the edges rather than go crashing through and it crunching flat underneath him. Yeah, I assume aew weren't stupid with the glass they used so that (plus the height) is probably what caused deeper cuts than you'd typically see. That's why glass is usually placed horizontally over chairs rather than vertically. Still if there's ever a match to do a high risk spot this was the one. I was in korakuen Hall with the glass flying deep to the side bleachers, you could hear it hit, its quite the spectacle but was glad I was in the cheap seats. I do worry it'l hit someone in the eye one day but on the flipside it wasn't much in this case and Flair taking bumps was more likely to end in an ambulance trip.

I would love to see Darby win the title and become AEW World Champion by the end of the year or early next year. Dude deserves it and is easily the top 5 MVP's of AEW. I hope he gets a run at some point, even if it's short. He's AEW's 2008-9 Jeff Hardy.

Wouldn't be an AEW PPV without making Dave Scherer completely unhinged about something.

Dave Scherer trying to somehow draw comparisons between in-ring danger and sexual assault "allegations" in terms of safety in AEW is the greasiest thing I've ever seen out of a website that can do more damage to my computer than if I actually just piss and shit into my tower for a month

Ahh yes, they crossed a line by *checks note* doing a potentially unsafe stunt on a PPV. No other company in history has attempted that.

So I guess Dave Scherer is never going to watch WWE again because of what happened with Owen, right? Right?

So I guess Dave Scherer is never going to watch WWE again because of what happened with Owen, right? Right? I was just about to reference that. Coach said something on Twitter to the same effect. "Other than Mick Foley, find any videos of a top star from WWE doing anything this wreckless." I mean, he wasn't a top star, but Shane McMahon liked jumping off higher shit than that through things. Also, they made Owen do a stunt that he wasn't completely comfortable with. And it ended up killing him because of their negligence.

I swear it's impossible to have reasonable discussions in most corners of the internet these days. It's either "IT WAS TOTALLY UNSAFE AND AEW IS INCREDIBLY STUPID" or "Guys, don't worry about it, Darby will be fine he always does this stuff." I'm glad that FAN is a shade of gray in that regard.

Hey. If you gonna do some ol’ dumb shit that could horribly wrong and kill your, at least you did it in what will unquestionably be the biggest and most memorable match of your career.
That’s what kills me about so much of the current style, the increasing risk for decreasing payoffs. But this was the opposite, if there was ever a match in dude’s career to be f*** insane, it was this one.
Now, there is something to be said for how it could mean more if he didn’t do ridiculous stuff each week but it’s admittedly moot here in what’s already a pretty iconic match for modern wrestling.

I loved how when Sting invited Tony Khan to the ring during the post-show sendoff segment, Tony just made a "WTF?" gesture when he walked by the spot where the glass was set up.

Everything else is pearl clutching The level of pearl clutching for this spot in particular is melting my brain. It wasn’t a safe spot by any means, but I don’t think it’s even the most dangerous spot Darby himself had ever done. I think the bump onto the stairs at WrestleDream was worse because he wasn’t in control of how he fell. The fact that I’ve seen multiple posts on Reddit about how AEW should go out of business for this “negligence” just proves how disingenuous the discourse surrounding AEW has gotten over the last year or so, to me.

Everything else is pearl clutching I think the accusations of pearl clutching are a tad unwarranted for this certain spot. So much can go wrong with flying glass especially to the audience. I think that's what most people are worried about first. Nobody in here is saying AEW should close shop. It's just a spot that could've really went wrong during Stings farewell match.
