I'm sure the guy in charge now has a lot more respect for Sting than Vince did— The worst thing about it is they had Sting shake HHH's hand after, even though HHH cheated his ass off to win. On the plus side, that match did give us Terminator - Rise of the Torn Quadricep, which is a decent enough entry in the franchise, and Kevin Nash pretending to sell a quad tear.

WWE's idea of respecting Sting was having him job in a match no one wanted as a secondary player in an old man faction war while still being followed by movie robots.

They never treated Sting with the respect he deserved.
Even after the terrible booking of his in ring stuff, having him lose to HHH in his debut and then shake his hand even though he was screwed all while the commentary buried him for being a WCW loser, he was treated as a sort of Brutus Beefcake or Sgt Slaughter tier of legend. Like he wasn't anything special or a huge legend. It was ridiculous.
He claimed for a long time he was resistant to sign with WWE because he was worried about how they'd portray him and his worries were proved right. If WWE make him a huge offer and he can't resist it then fair enough but I really hope not. He fits so much better in AEW than he ever did in WWE.

True, I was just pointing out two positives of a match that made Sting look like a dumbass.

There were some reports that the real reason Goldberg got so much when he arrived in WWE again was because Vince realized after Sting's run and how much people responded to it that there was money in pushing ex-WCW stars as real legends in their own right, so they pulled in Goldberg. A decade and a half after they bought WCW< and with a guy who already held the world title in WWE over a decade earlier. WWE didn't just not do a good job with Sting, but built him up a run specifically on the belief that they shouldn't push him as the legend he was because he came from WCW. Vince never got over his bullshit.

I realize the only thing that's real in wrestling is the money and the miles and all that, but Tony Khan booked Sting damn near perfectly given his age while also recognizing his stature. Sting's transformation into "Crazy Hardcore Grandpa" was about as good of a way you were going to come up with to disguise his limitations and rehab his image after the mountain of suck that was his WWE run, and Sting worked his ass off to put over everyone he ever worked with even if he didn't lose at all in AEW. So, yeah. If WWE came to him with a stupid sum of money, I'd do it, too, but I'd take the check while giving them the finger.

It's crazy to think how much money was left on the table because Vince's "logic" and "who cares that they made money, they didn't do it MY way, goddammit!!!" mentality.

I'm sure the guy in charge now has a lot more respect for Sting than Vince did— I don't take wrestling too seriously in my adult life and there's few things that have actually pissed me off, but this dredges up old feelings for sure.

Has to be said, the last time Sting was under WWE contract post-first retirement he did exactly zero on air appearances and a bunch of side cameos at conventions so unless they actually want to push the boat out about how significant Sting was with the footage they have, there's no real reason for him to go that way. As Ed said, only time we'd see him in WWE is if they want him to induct Lex which, frankly, he's the best guy to induct him. Flair at a push but Sting and Luger have a gigantic amount of history together. He actually did make one appearance - for Ric Flair's birthday celebration on Raw (the one where Batista beat Flair up to get a match with Triple H).
It was so forgettable though I don't blame you or anyone else for not remembering it.

Usually not super petty about WWE/AEW since I watch both shows but WWE straight up doesn’t deserve Sting. They did him hella wrong, I’d personally hate to see it.

You are absolutely correct and I'm starting to remember that happened now. And I'm watching it now, HE DIDN'T EVEN COME OUT IN MAKEUP AND GEAR?! I've gone from "Yeah, that'd suck" to "F*** that, man" in terms of him signing any deal.

I suspect they would have let Tony buy some footage from WCW as long as he put some sort of acknowledgement up.
But Tony didnt ask, likely because he wouldnt want to pay to advertise the Network, which I cant blame him for!
In as far as whether WWE treated Sting with respect, I feel they treated him with as much as he showed them, that is to say he never really wanted to go there and they didnt know what to do with someone as broken down and unmotivated as he was at the time.
If they'd got the limited but much more fired up Sting AEW got, maybe things would have been different. Probably not, as Vince was gonna Vince regardless, but let's not pretend Sting wasnt a bit crap in that run himself regardless of booking

There was this unaired segment afterwards, in which after Kurt Angle gives Jinder an Olympic Slam onto the birthday cake, Shawn Michaels then tastes some of it. Gross.

Nah. Let WWE sit in the corner and think about what they did to him the first time they brought him in.
AEW did Sting golden. There's nothing WWE can do to come close to that, much less top it.

A hof inductor for Lex in the future I reckon. A legends deal in a few years maybe. He won’t wanna cause upset by doing it too soon. Apart from appreciating his longevity & thinking he was a cool enough wrestler I was never a massive Sting fan. His wwe run didn’t upset or bother me at all. Just thought it was a shame he got injured & it got cut short.
