I love Chris and have been a huge fan for years, but he needs a good, long break. If he doesn't want to take one then he really needs to mix it up and change his look to at least look a little fresher. I'd start by cutting off that mane. imagine the scenes if he shows up with no warning on Wednesday and dude is straight up bald. he explains that he did it in honor of HOOK’s dad since he is the new best FTW champion and he’s that far gone

Big Show got them while in WWE. Jericho, you're getting the kind of reaction that Big Show got. Think about that. Dude’s basically on par with a version of Big Show so bad it nearly killed the Royal Rumble as a concept. I'd like to make a motion that we assign Jericho "Local Man" status

They're in a weird spot with him; for as worn out as he is for many regular AEW viewers, he's apparently still valuable when it comes to maintaining ratings during tougher quarters when Dynamite's on, so they want to use him, and he does want to put newer guys over...but it doesn't change that he's stale, and a lot of his angles drag on past their expiration date. So you want him around for the former, but need to fix the latter.
This new bit he's doing could be the reinvention he needs, but he'd also benefit from some time away; fans got used to him dipping out for awhile over the years, but he's been a pretty steady fixture in AEW since day one at this point.

Despite the intense amount of hate Jericho was getting during the match (and him being a heel does help, I suppose), I still heard plenty of "TAP" chants when Hook was in the Walls.
Jericho leaning into his newly copyrighted "Learning Tree" nonsense and giving everyone incredibly bad and specific advice while having to constantly cheat to keep the FTW title might be decent for a few months. Especially if he is giving it to people with long established careers.
"Wardlow, you just do better in groups. The last thing you should want is to be out there on your own. You got to realize your role as the silent muscle is your strong foundation, much like the roots of my learning tree. You're welcome."
"Matt Sydal. You have all the potential in the world and with proper guidance, I could help you on your way to long and healthy career." "I've wrestled for over twenty years, Chris." "Oh...professionally?"
"Claudio, I don't think you should do the Swing anymore. It's more of a distraction to your matches and it takes away from this whole tough guy vibe you're going for." "Didn't I make you tap out with my swing?" "I hardly recall ever knowing you."

Last nights crowd was crazy. That wasn't good heel heat, that was Get off this show heat. Please retire is a wild chant.
But yeah Jericho is easily the worst thing in AEW and him leaning in to that as a new character isn't as great as he probably thinks it is. Dude needs to go away for a long time

He's too far gone to compete anymore. It started in 21 but he could still pull out a great match now and then.
I'd say make him a manager but he'd make it all about him instead of who he's managing.

I actually thought everybody from Jericho, to Hook, to Taz, to Tony, to Excalibur did a great job. The issue of course was the fans REALLY rejected Jericho

Jericho is exhausting and whatever good schtick he can find in this act is worn down by the fact it's a self-conscious parody of how he's already perceived on the show, which mostly just entails him doing shit he's already been doing on the show. I think it's insane seeing him and the Bucks doing similar ideas on the first show, because the Bucks are squeezing everything they can out of the smarmy act and really drilling the thing, taking on new traits to help sell the character beyond what the internet runs them down for. Jericho just feels like Jericho. He's doing Jericho. I don't think he's totally spent in the ring but I think he needs to be off TV for a while just to recharge, heal up, figure something else out, because maybe he's not spent, but the audience f***ing is.

Man, I'm by no means a Jericho fan, but that crowd had me feeling kinda bad for him. I said kinda!

Fine in short bursts, but it is really apparent he's given carte blanche in terms of stories and amount of show he eats up, so his act feels overexposed that only exacerbates an already stale act. It's somewhat bizarre as the performer made a career out of disappearing for a bit to keep the aura alive/reinvent his deal, but that hasn't seemed to apply at all during Jericho's AEW stint. It's probably not aided by the fact his current face run took off on the basis of the heel faction double-crossing him when he himself was a double-crossing heel.
That said, the sentiment that he's somehow cooked as a wrestler is a bit disingenuous to be frank. Not saying there's not been a few wobbly periods, but he is genuinely a GOAT, master performer and whatever other superlatives you can throw at him, he can run a great match around whatever limitations he might have, if there is any there in the first place. The underlying issue is the fact the character work serving his matches has recently been serving to undermine his ring-work.

Max Caster and the Undisputed Kingdom are still there, the Kingdom is in a spot above Jericho and barely get a reaction in their matches

Kind of felt bad for him, considering how much of a legend he is. And that’s not really good heel heat at all, that’s pure go-away heat. Maybe he can turn the crowd around, but if not I think he needs a long break.

I know the feud will end with Hook beating Jericho for the FTW title but I'm ready for Hook to move on to the real belts in the promotion.
The FTW thing has run its course, just like Jericho IMO.

Same if only Hook manages to improve in the ring and promo skills, for a reason AEW has protected Hook a lot.

The crowd cheering at the end not because Jericho won, but that the match was finally over lol.

I picked "sometimes" because he's still good on commentary. It's time to just let him do that with the rare, occasional match.

That title has to have one of the silliest backstories for a new fan. Once upon a time, back in the 90s.... 30 years later......
