"The Way To Fight", 1996 Japanese coming-of-age drama. Reportedly based on the early lives of two fighters, boxer Hidekazu Akai and professional wrestler Akira Maeda. As teenagers, the two are their respective schools' 'tough guys', the ones who fight to show how strong their schools are. Both are also tired of their roles, and want to move on, but the people around them keep manoeuvring into a fight.
Imagine if Takeshi Miike directed a John Hughes 80's teen flick.
Because he did. Takeshi Miike directed this movie. The guy who made "Audition", "Ichi the Killer", "Dead or Alive", all that ultra-violent madness made a teen drama.
And the fight at the end is epic.

Most of WWE studio films during the late 2000's early 2010's. They were easy targets to shit on due to the constant air play of trailers and certain quotes (Randy going to the papers, I want my son back etc.) But did anybody really see them? I only saw 12 Rounds and I found it okay. Not great but far from the worst movie I've ever seen. I watched See No Evil because I'm a horror fan and The Condemned because I always enjoy the Battle Royale murder game genre. Both sucked. See No Evil should have gone with Kane having a three foot penis because at least then, it'd have something memorable about it.

Anyone here ever see Frankenstein's Great Aunt Tillie (1984)?
I loved the campy title so knew I had to watch it. But for something that features well known actors (Donald Pleasence plays Victor Frankenstein) it might be the worst thing I’ve ever seen.
And at 100 minutes it feels looooong. I remember reading once that there was a bunch of stuff left on the cutting room floor and there was supposed to be an even longer cut. Mercifully I don’t think it’s ever seen the light of day.
Speaking of long I’d be surprised that many people can sit through my endurance test films. What I mean by endurance tests are REALLY long movies that are also REALLY bad.
Two in mind, because I’ve seen them within the past year, are The Veil (2005) and Showgirls 2: Penny’s From Heaven (2011).
The Veil is roughly 150 minutes and is a SOV mostly black and white zombie outbreak film. The actors talk with some kind of thick regional British accent and the audio quality is also very bad. So for a lot of the film it’s very tough to even tell what is going on.
Showgirls 2: Penny’s from Heaven is a SOV very loose sequel to the original, but written, directed, and starring Rena Riffel who played Penny in the original. Other than Penny almost none of the original cast or characters return. The closest thing to fun for this are the references to the original. But the ratio of that to long stretches of the film being about batshit occultism stuff and unsexy burlesque is incredibly uneven. This goes on for 145 minutes.

When Showgirls 2 was coming out, pretty sure DTV,a review site had reviewer fighting over who HAD to watch it. No one wanted to. I will try to find the review. The poor lady that got stuck with it decided to drink while watching and writing her review. By the halfway point the review wasn't making much sense. Near the end it felt like she was just smashing her head into her keyboard. Been trying to avoid obscure horror, mostly cause there is so much of it. Easter Bunny Massacre-Low budget modern made UK horror. One of the many set in the woods horrors coming out of the UK in the past 5 years. Easter Bunny is killing people. Has one scene where Bunny is up in a tree, pouring scalding hot melted chocolate on the people below. It looks more like doo doo than chocolate. Bad acting,Bad FX,bad script. And I paid 10 bucks for this. Speed Demons-Take The Wraith. Get a bad cast and FX team. Then let David Decoutu direct it. David was known for decades for his low budget but fun horror films, stuff like Nightmare Sisters and a few of the Puppet Master sequels. Then around the early 2000s David started making a pile of horror films aimed at gay men. This is one of them. Between a bad remake of The Wraith is plenty of scenes where the cast finds any reason they can to take off their shirts and get wet. The Arena-No not the 70s WIP movie and no not the 80s SCIFI gladiator combat movie. Both from Roger Corman. This is the early 2000s Ridley Scott's Gladiator inspired film from Corman. Goto Europe. Bring a few Penthouse Pets of the month to be your leads. Then on 1/100th of the budget remake Gladiator but with the lead being female instead of male.

Anyone like Japanese cinema from the mid 20th century? Yasujiro Ozu's Noriko trilogy, in particular, brings me great joy.

G-Man From Hell: a low budget fantasy noir film from 2002 based on a Dark Horse comic series.
The film is about a pair of a murdered prohibition era federal agents coming back from the dead and opening up their own detective agency in order to rack up enough good deeds to get into heaven.
Boasting a cast that includes: Tate Donavon, William Forsythe, Vanessa Angel, Bobcat Goldthwait, Gary Busey, Zach Galligan and Robert Goulet as "The Devil"
(The last part is most likely why I decided to rescue the DVD from the Wal Mart bargain bin from which it came .)

I only saw 12 Rounds and I found it okay. Not great but far from the worst movie I've ever seen. I have seen my share. I recall buying "Legendary" and "Knucklehead" at a Blockbuster store because they were previously viewed. I thought why not. "Legendary" was...kind of like a Lifetime or Hallmark movie. It wasn't terrible. I might check it out again. "Knucklehead" wasn't that great, but I did like seeing Melora Hardin in her underwear in one scene (the other girl who she knocked out was pretty hot, too). As for others, as far as I know, I have seen "Bending the Rules" with Edge and Jamie Kennedy. I didn't mind that one, actually. I also remember watching "The Reunion," which was passable for what it was. Then you have the likes of "The Day," which was only bought by WWE Studios for its release. That one had no wrestlers in it, at all. I remember thinking that one was slow, but after a few viewings, I liked it more. I also liked "No One Lives."

I remember back in University watching a movie called Short Bus at the local indie cinema about a couples counselor/sex therapist who was unable to orgasm. During a session with a couple events happen that lead to her being invited to a social/artistic/sexual salon in Brooklyn called "Shortbus". The movie was notable for nearly costing Sook-Yin Lee her career at CBC due to the scenes where the sex was not simulated. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ShortbusI had no idea what to expect when some friends invited me. The opening scene featured a man sucking his own dick. Certainly an experience. I haven't seen it since then so I honestly can't say how it holds up.

I will admit that I turned away at some scenes. However, I was intrigued that there was a story to go with this film, and it really touched on the struggles the major characters faced. So I could say it had a good plot and stuff, but I think it was overshadowed by the non-simulated sex scenes. It's a hard movie to recommend.

I saw this a few years ago. How dare you not include Kari Wuhrer in your cast list! She was the best thing in the movie! Although that's not fair, she's the best thing in everything she's in. Including Sliders - everybody knows that show sucked until she showed up!

It reminds me of something Ray Dennis Steckler said where he would shoot his movies without a script then get bored with them and completely change the direction of the film. With Showgirls 2 I’m pretty sure they had a script because they quote some dialogue from the original verbatim as well as reenact/parody some scenes. But the new stuff is all very bad to the point where it’s a struggle to make sense of it, even if you’re completely sober. I hear you on there being SO MUCH bad horror crap out there. Especially the post-2000’s stuff. There has to be about a million movies with fun titles that sound like they would have been entertaining if they were made 50 years ago and produced by David F. Friedman. But they’re almost always not worth actually watching.

Spygirl, a South Korean romcom about a dweeby sort of student falling for a girl who is an undercover North Korean spy. Kind of slapstick at times. I saw this in 2004ish while living in Korea and as it was pre-streaming and only the top 5% of Korean movies got an international DVD release I doubt many others have seen it (its domestic response was so so). It may have achieved minor cult status since then as Korean romcoms of that era are quite good with the much more famous My Sassy Girl being a standout.
