AEW always puts the stuff they really want people to see upfront and the stuff that's kind of more, "Eh, whatever," at the end and the ratings generally reflect that, there really isn't much info to be gleamed from this one way or another. The fact the show held reasonably well is a decent sign in and of itself since it was always going to dip a bit as the show went, it always does.
That said sitting there in the arena the Punk footage followed by the FTR promo followed by Ospreay followed by Jericho was just an utter death gauntlet in terms of my interest levels.

Cool response, been a fun week of discussion here lol Always is with wrestling. These days I just let people say their thing for the most part and keep it moving. Too little time to take things seriously lol.

Yeah, it's more common for the Dynamite main event rating to dip than it is for it to go up. It's a problem they've always had. A very, very small number of wrestlers will always deliver numbers in the main event (Kenny Omega singles matches immediately jump to mind) but it's not consistent.

2,318,000. No, that isn't what Raw got last week. That was 2,362,000. The first number is what AEW got in its last three weeks combined. That is also the lowest total viewership over three weeks in the show's history at its normal run time. Bait really used to be believable and at least have some effort put into it, last few days have just been downright sad from some posters lol See my amended post. I also find it rather insulting to imply that either my posts or I (or both) are "sad."

It came off as bait due to it being incorrect Data and it was sad in that context due to how much exhausting discourse has been in this thread this week Appreciate the amendment and that it wasn't your intent to be incorrect.

Oh, that's a horrible number for discourse. Not because it's a bad figure, but because it's in that sweet spot of being enough of an increase that you could call it a success, but not so high that it's an objective and obvious success. If there were any better words to summarize AEW as a whole, I have yet to read them.

Tony is onto something here with backstage camera footage. Next week he should show backstage cam footage of Buddy Matthews eating food out garbage can. Show Yuka's backstage altercations and they'll triple the ratings.

So they have become a laughing stock in most corners on the internet, and have that little bump to show for it? Great going TK lol

So they have become a laughing stock in most corners on the internet, and have that little bump to show for it? Great going TK lol Those places were already trashing them. This didn’t change that. However Jack Perry’s t shirts sold out and NJPW is experiencing an increase in ticket sales. It may have actually helped Jack Perry become a bigger draw. The results of this won’t be known immediately

Every single company on the planet has done something stupid and embarrassing at some point. This isn't going to kill the company or really even hurt the brand, at worst people will crack jokes about it occasionally. WWE's done way the hell worse ratings traps than this - top of my head Melanie Pillman - and it had no real lasting impact whatsoever. They did dumb shit. It's fine.

Pretty sure when Jack comes back over, which would be for Dynasty, the same thing would happen with his merch sales I don't really see why it would draw in New Japan and wouldn't when he came back to AEW if this caused that much of a surge for his merch over there. Only reason it hasn't for AEW is they haven't come out with anything yet as storyline wise he's, well again, the Scapegoat.

WWE's done way the hell worse ratings traps than this - top of my head Melanie Pillman - and it had no real lasting impact whatsoever. They did dumb shit. It's fine. WWE opened an entire RAW show with the McMahon's promising change to the product after low ratings, including burying on-air talent Baron Corbin FOR the low ratings for weeks, but people think this shit is carny or bush league, it doesn't even crack the top f***ing 50 of all time dumb bullshit companies have pulled (And I still don't think it was dumb, it's gonna be subjective who does) Maybe not even in the last five years cause half of that list would go to NWA and Corgan... and then Anthem for firing D'Amore after TNA was finally showing life again.

it is something to wonder about but I swear wrestling as a whole is the one thing on TV where you can f*** up massively/put on some dogshit and things somehow stabilize or get better. a big part of that is wwe being too big to fail now but they or TNA or would put on some shit that made me wanna give up on the whole hobby and they'd get their best rating in months. same with AEW at times early on when I was very decisively not a fan of some early days stuff. the only thing that is predictable is the jericho drop and even that is iffy because he got a big jump maybe a month ago or so.
what is interesting is seeing something like this happen in a social media age with the competitor doing really good.
when wwe was completely shitting the bed AEW wasn't established, I.E. The Fiend/Rollins HIAC that got super loud AEW chants. the company itself is not being booed on their own shows so that's... something but i feel like that is important to take into account. they may have totally f***ed up but i don't think this will cause the usual AEW viewers to run away and be all like "this show f***in' stinks" unless being the uncool option online where nobody is cool means that much.
it is embarrassing to see that shit out there but hopefully we'll get a jack perry returning at dynasty who gradually embellishes the story into eventually saying he beat the other guys ass backstage. you could have the king of funny chickenshit heels if you work this right. it is not fun being an AEW fan online right now but we really won't know until we see what the follow up is. i hope it is good.

Only reason it hasn't for AEW is they haven't come out with anything yet as storyline wise he's, well again, the Scapegoat. I mean if it works out for them and drives a consistent bump in ratings, boosts Perry's stock, then that's great of course. I don't see it happening, unless they follow it up with something big that really puts the focus on those currently in the company. If they have a big follow up to this then hopefully it will work.

I’m already looking forward to the start of June where, again, WBD will put out a statement saying the demo’s been good and it’s been helping them along with the NBA and NHL and we’ll still be having these weird conversations or wondering what they should or shouldn’t be doing.
And I’m not saying we shouldn’t be having the conversations and debates, it’s just funny that it’ll keep happening and some will still be acting like it’s not important.
Like, TNT will get big ratings from Inside the NBA later this month and, unless Golden State make it into the Play-In, Draymond Green will likely help with the coverage. They ain’t a channel to shy or not take advantage of controversy.
