Motivated by how meh both of the Melo / Trick matches were, kind of has the subject on my mind. Kind of puts a damper on how people will likely book back on the storyline with how much the actual payoffs underdelivered.
First example besides that coming to mind for me is Orton and Wyatt. Both their big feuds were mostly pretty fun, but those two never had a match together that rose above the level of, "God will this please end already why," and some of them weren't even that good.

"Macho Man" Randy Savage and George "The Animal" Steele seems to be the textbook example of this. That love triangle feud with Miss Elizabeth was compelling, but the matches were subpar at best.

Austin/Undertaker. They were tied at the hip for damn near half of Austin's run at the top and every single match was the shits.

Jake Roberts and Rick Rude had the most boring matches.

Damn I was ready to talk about Carmelo vs. Trick but that was literally the genesis for this thread, apparently.
So I guess I'll have to go with Hollywood Hogan vs. Sting. It's the single most important feud in WCW history, but when they got in the ring - both at Starrcade 1997 and SuperBrawl VIII - the matches were lousy even before all the run-ins and shenanigans and post-match hijinks.

To be fair was there anyone Hogan had chemistry in the ring with at that point

Goldust and Triple H in 1996-97. The feud had a lot of good ingredients and should have been red-hot, but whenever they got in the ring together it was sooooo plodding. I was really disappointed in it at the time.

Luger is such a fascinating case. Multiple world titles, numerous midcard titles, some big time feuds and yet you look back at his career and see so much meat left on the bone. I'd argue Luger was the hottest babyface in wrestling for most of 1997. The loooooong game of Hogan/Sting screwed him

Orton should have had a couple more epic rivalries that never seemed to click.
Him and HHH, student v master, the smartest, most ruthless wrestlers of their eras.
Him and Cena, came up together, one choosing the light, one the dark.
But no matter how many times they tried them, those feuds between top guys who are all good wrestlers, good talkers, they just never worked like they should.

Jake and anyone.
Good stories and promos, didn't deliver in the ring.
Even the Savage feud was begging for at least one violent blowoff match.

Undertaker & Kane. Kinda. I like the Mania 14 match even though it’s not a classic. Can’t remember a decent match they had other than that.

I can't believe I'm defending anything Hulk Hogan has ever done, but Sting shouldn't have been anywhere near a ring at that point. Dude was in terrible shape physically and mentally

Dude that Miz vs. Mizdow match after 8 years of build was probably *the* moment that I stopped caring about Damien Sandow

Seriously go back and watch that match vs. Flair in Baltimore at the GAB. The fans were rabid wanting Lex to win, and as good as Flair was then, Luger held up his end too. They then waited another 3 years before giving him the title, amidst countless alignment changes, and it went over like a lead balloon. He goes to the WBF the next year, WWF the following year, and we all know what happens from there. He is just like the perennial 'also ran' or 'other guy.'

I really love Bray Wyatt and to me almost every feud of his had an amazing build. However I honestly can't remember any singles feud of his that resulted in a good match, except for Bryan.
