I absolutely loathe that these bigots are representatives of my state. To make it worse, they aren't even elected positions, so all of us pissed off Okies can't just directly kick them on their asses at the ballot box. The Oklahoma State Athletic Commission is part of the State Department of Health, and like their daddy organization, all the positions are appointed by the governor, who I will kindly remind y'all is dumber than, and just as useful as, a submarine built entirely out of screen doors. I had to miss that December show cause of work, and at the time was bummed cause I wanted to finally see people like Nyla in person, but also thought "Surely they'll be back again", and like 2-3 weeks later(cause the meeting they decided this at was on January 3rd), these jackasses went, "So...about that."

Terrible. I feel for her, AEW, anyone who's affected by this including those who live in Oklahoma. As someone who lives in Arkansas, I can relate to bullshit like this. Just bullshit.

dirtbag promoters running dangerous shows with untrained workers slashing oneanother with broken light tubes in a ring made of tetanus, duct tape and dreams but this is EXACTLY my favourite type of wrestling

If this was an legit sport, I see their point. But this is a scripted sport and they're being unnecessarily petty for no reason. Doesn't make sense at all.

Honestly if I'm AEW I'd just remove all my shows from Oklahoma and just be like "Sorry can't do it, not our fault".

To the people who feel like they have to add "I'd understand the transphobia if it was a legit sport" to their takes for some reason: Plz don't quote this thx

Just when you thought you knew from watching arrest vids just where the stupid states were (Florida, Texas, Illinois/Wisconsin/Ohio, Arkansas, New Mexico), here comes another to join the list. I hope AEW tells them to f*** off and Nyla gets the belt again in Oklahoma. Better yet, have her win the TBS Title there. Then, they can say that she made history, in Oklahoma, by becoming the first wrestler to win both titles. So I know that I'm normally against Nyla being anywhere near a title, but I'll happily support this.

What they're saying is, "if you're not going to play by our rules and identify by the gender you were assigned at birth, we're going to restrict your rights." Essentially, it's punishing someone for being who they really are.

Before you judge Oklahoma officials too harshly take a moment and put yourself in their shoes:

I’m worried that this is gonna start a trend of like minded states enacting the same… Maybe not banning wrestling, but it's already happening. Steps are being taken to outright ban trans people from everything.

You know, I just remembered a match I got to see live in person that happened here...er...actually 20 years ago now, that makes this situation even dumber and more blatantly transphobic. The first ever WWE event I saw live in person was an April 2004 SmackDown! here in OKC. The very first match on the card was a No DQ intergender match between Torrie Wilson and Rene Dupree. Now Cena did eventually interfere to save Torrie, but Rene and Torrie did exchange several moves before that point.
Edit: And this match was set up/advertised the previous week on SD! too, so the commission knew it was happening going into the event.

I've been out of the loop, are there any other trans indie wrestlers of note that could be brought in, either to be signed or just as guests? I'd love to see the mental hunancanranas that would occur if these idiots had to wrap their heads around, say, Nyla vs. a trans dude as part of a mixed tag match. Giselle Shaw from TNA and Gabbi Tuft, the former Tyler Reks, who is training with Dustin Rhodes. I know there are more but they are the only ones I can remember by name. Off the top of my head, Jamie Senegal (Daffney's daughter) and Edith Surreal (the former Still Life with Apricots and Pears)

I’m worried that this is gonna start a trend of like minded states enacting the same… sadly it likely will, but then AEW and, and I'd hope, WWE, would need to be clear they arent sports, dont give a shit about state athletic commissions, and run anyway as theatre.

I agree with everyone here who says that this is just a pure act of bigotry. Fairness in competition... in a predetermined sport... that most fans of the product know isn't a real fight? And anyone sitting on this athletic commission should know that too. Sadly, I think they do and they're just being bigots.
Not only do I hope that AEW announces they'll no longer run shows in Oklahoma, but I hope WWE joins them in this too. It's an issue that's bigger than a single promotion.

I’m 100% sure that there have been countless movies and tv shows that have aired in Oklahoma since tv was invented that featured every aspect of the LGBTQ+ community and everyone has been just fine. Since pro wrestling is choreographed athletics scripted for television I fail to see how any state athletic commission can even begin to enforce something like this.
Then again State athletic commissions have never been about protecting the athletes as much as they’ve been about getting sporting events to bribe them to look the other way about stuff.

I’m worried that this is gonna start a trend of like minded states enacting the same… sadly it likely will, but then AEW and, and I'd hope, WWE, would need to be clear they arent sports, dont give a shit about state athletic commissions, and run anyway as theatre. Vince started admitting that professional wrestling wasn't a real competition back in 1989. He did it specifically to start getting states to decommission pro-wrestling like it was a real sport. Specifically, he said this in a hearing before the New Jersey State Senate. After deregulation didn't work at the time, WWE would not run a show in New Jersey after the 1989 Summerslam. Eventually, Gov. Christine Whitman, a governer who was big on giving tax breaks to companies to get them to come to the state, was successful in getting "sports entertainment" deregulated in 1997. In fact, WWE even publically thanked her by giving her a championship belt on their first event in the state after the bill passed, "Summerslam 1997." Other states followed. But even today, as we're seeing here, some states are still stuck in the caveman age and haven't gotten the memo about pro-wrestling.
