Love having a babyface who'll fight fire with fire and get dirty when the heel tries to.

I'm glad they went full bore and had him come out in Black Panther Gear and Jimmy Rave's robe just to spell out that he was not losing shit tonight lmfao

Very much Stone Cold vibes in that his character is a scumbag who would hunt you down and ruin your life if you cut him off in traffic but the fans want to cheer for him so what can you do?
I suspect he will retain at All In in the inevitable Ospreay match as they would be wise to drag out Will’s chase until the fans are begging for him to win but he will drop it a week later at All Out citing exhaustion as he unwisely accepts a challenge from either Hangman or a returning MJF.
In between title defenses against Danielson, Copeland and dare I say a shock successful defense against Okada should give him his bones.

This really feels like a big moment. He doesn't even need to hold the belt for that long, especially since I assume Hangman will take it off him.
HHH gets a lot of criticism for not seeing anything in him but sometimes things and people don't click. Swerve is just right for the top of AEW and his organic rise has been amazing to watch.

I genuinely love how across AEW and WWE, we have two good examples of babyface champions: the traditional good guy hero (Cody Rhodes) and the anti-hero with an edge (Swerve Strickland).

f***. YES.
I jumped out of my chair at the three count.
I love me some organic rise to the top storytelling, and everyone was rooting for him so much that even his evil 1990's Big Bossman stuff couldn't keep him full on heel.
Well deserved, and about damn time we have a black world champion in AEW. I wish it had happened sooner, but I'm also glad Swerve is the first one.

Though… Killmonger Killshot. I’m sure it’s not a coincidence

So far we've had Rey Fenix(AAA), Pentagon(TNA), Johnny(TNA) & Swerve(AEW). Now we need a WWE World Champ for the guys since the female side ran the table for all 3: Taya(TNA), Rosa(AEW), Io(WWE).

Lot of people at his post-Dynasty celebration meal from last night. Think I saw Shane Taylor, Ricky Starks, Nana, and Jericho among other folks and I think his mom.
Seeing a bunch of WWE folks give him his flowers is really cool, too.

When MJF won the belt it felt like he'd hold it a year, Joe felt temporary.
Swerve is interesting because it's not clear how long he'll hold it. Could lose to Hangman at DoN, cpudl lose it to Ospreay at Wembley, might beat both in the coming months and go in a completely different direction.

Happy for the guy. Not only does he have a natural charisma that's impossible to teach, but he's really put in the work.

Really glad AEW knew to play the hot hand they had with Swerve. Not that it should have taken five years to have their first Black world champ, but I’m damned happy that it was him. Being a WWE castoff who grew into a megastar in AEW is really a boon for the company’s identity as well, the kind of thing the WWF would always ding WCW for with the likes of Austin and Foley.

Well-deserved for such a talented and charismatic performer.
Hoping it'll be a good reign.
