Do any of yall know why wearing hats is suppose to be disrespectful? Or is it just one of those "well...society says it is for no reason...so...it is" things...

Apparently, national pride can only enter your body and soul through your hair.
That's what I heard, at least.

At one point in time (still is by many people) it was considered good manners to remove your hat indoors. That's what I've heard at least.

If in doubt, it is best for a gentleman to remove his hat indoors as soon as practical. It is considered a sign of contempt and/or disrespect to leave your hat on when it would be proper to remove it. It is surprising how many people do not remove their hats for the National Anthem or a passing funeral procession.. a shame really.
Pretty much it. Largely because at one time men always wore hats outside to keep their hair clean from dust and dirt. So when inside it was only proper to remove it as a sign of respect to the host, who doesn't want to see you with a dirty hat on, and as a sign of self dignity.

Also, you can be held in contempt of court if you are in a court room with a hat on.

I wish it was acceptable for me to wear my cool fedora in public and not look like a douche of epic proportions.

That would be on you not the Fedora, man. I see people wearing them and making it look sharp. No offense, to you.
Anyway, more history.
You didn't ask,but I'll tell you the origin of the "no hats on men indoors" rule. It began with men of 'lesser rank' removing whatever headress or coronet (crown) they had on to show that they were not trying to challenge or be disrespectful to the king or cheiftan of their country. In this day and age,it's kind of a non-issue in most lands.

True, it's less to do me than with I'm typically not dressed well enough to rock the fedora, though when I'm put together it works well.

I only tend to wear them inside at house parties, or when I was working at the skate park. otherwise I don't really want to be wearing the dang things all the time.

I have always worn a hat when my hair simply wasn't cooperating with me and my brush. But, in my younger years, my sister would take me to a diner to eat. And she would always make me take my hat off. I always sorta thought it was more disrespectful for me to have my awful looking hair exposed. Stupid sister!

Take your hat off while entering government buildings, national anthems, while eating, funeral processions and there's probably a few more.

I would normally agree, I used to wonder why anyone cared. However I was out for dinner at a nice restaurant the other day and was actually quite annoyed that there was guy wearing a baseball hat at the next table. Like many things that are considered good manners it may not make much sense on a practical level, but much like standing up when a lady comes to the table, pulling out her chair, or holding the door open, it will set you apart from the crowd. (and possibly get you laid)
