Anyone else a fan of this great film? It's always a bit overlooked because of Airplane! but this film is all kinds of awesome. Not only does it have the brilliant Swedish Bookstore scene, it has one of the great character names ever....Chocolate Mousse.

YES!
Val Kilmer was awesome back in the day... This has to be one of the funniest spoofs I've ever seen.

I honestly don't see how the scene is all that brilliant. But then, it's not a new film, and it's likely that other scenes and ideas have been taken from it... so maybe that's it.

Man, TOP SECRET! sold to me with the opening where the thriller genre cliches are turned on their skulls, and Skeet Shooting Surfing.
"This sounds like a bad movie."

Top Secret is a major classic, and I remember thinking the girl was hot. Does anyone know if this is out on DVD?

It's been out in the UK for years now, I have a copy. I would be very surprised if it wasn't out in the US too.

it was Val Kilmer's first movie. Its kind of a shame he didn't make do more comedies
The whole idea was basically an Elvis movie version of a spy movie. It was my favorite comedy as a kid. I had a really crappy vhs copy that I recorded when they showed it on Fox and I used to watch it like once a day.
I have the DVD and its still pretty great.

Thank you thank you thank you DiG!!!
My wife thinks I am retarded the way I start giggling out of the blue, thinking about the cow wearing rubber boots.
Real Genius is another less talked about Val classic. Not a spoof, but he has a Chevy Chase/Ryan Reynolds type delivery, and it is hilarious.

Yeah, I read they are going to do a remake of Real Genius. That hurt me... as everything good from childhood is getting remade and bastardized. :\

It's the funniest movie I have ever seen.
I like the bit at the concert where he tries to hang himself, then sticks his head in the oven, then lays over the railway tracks...all on stage while singing a love song.

I think the reason why its not brought up much is because the movie didn't do much in theatres. Yeah it made a profit, but not like AIRPLANE! or even ZAZ's later success NAKED GUN. The other problem with TOP SECRET! is that, how many people get the genre-jokes? The movie slaps at Elvis and spy/thriller movies....but its not as obvious as say the serious police procedural or the disaster genre.
