Fast Times at Ridgemont High was the only commentary where they talked AFTER the credits were done rolling. It was like 15 more minutes of talking and a black screen.

The Goonies. Take the whole cast about 15 years later, put them in a room, the result is amazing.

I still think the best commentaries are futurama and the simpsons, especially the Al Jean and Mike Reiss ones, but the Dave Merkin ones are still pretty good

Did they ever cut a Simpson commentary with John Swartzwelder? I remember they mention he wouldn't go in for one.

Ok so when ever I come down to 2 movies on with or one without commentary i normally go with the one that has it. What are some of your faves and why. Spinal Tap: I like this one a lot because they stay in character the whole time and truly act like it was a real band and real people Detroit Rock City: has 3 commentaries, Director, Kiss , and one with the actors. The Actors one is worth it just for James DeBello every once and a while talking over every one else yelling about why he is not on the screen and how dumb the rest is because he is not there. Like some of them would be talking about movies getting rated R but then because of columbine they were told to make it PG, and Debello starts yelling about how boring it was and started talking to his character on screen which ones do you guys like? # WTF!! As soon as I read the thread title I was thinking Spinal Tap. Great minds and all that... ;D

No joke, the problem with that one is that a majority of the commentary was Amy Heckerling and Cameron Crowe kissing each other's ass along with slagging on Joe Walsh (granted, he did deserve it for that awful soundtrack)

2 jump to mind immediately:
-Bubba Ho-Tep: The Chin impersonates Elvis in a commentary. But not the Elvis in the movie...The REAL Elvis!!
Him taking calls during the movie=gold.
-Anything that involves Kurt Russell and John Carpenter doing a commentary. They are so much fun together, they should do commentaries for movies they have nothing to do with!

Anchorman. For about five minutes, they just go on listing things you can't say on a DVD commentary. You can't say "dick salad." Isn't that the same commentary where they end up watching another movie when some people leave the booth....like halfway during the commentary?

This reminds me: The commentary for 40-Year Old Virgin is hilarious.

The Goonies. Take the whole cast about 15 years later, put them in a room, the result is amazing. Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory does the same. No Gene Wilder, but it's great to hear from all of the kids as grown ups. I also like what Disney did for the Bambi DVD. They found books full of Walt Disney's old production notes ahead of time and some guy who does a spot on impression of Walt's voices reads them durring the specific scenes.

Anything John Carpenter/Kurt Russell. Both are friends and worked for so many years....its always a blast to listen to them chat it up about ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, THE THING, BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA (such a good track, they barely talk of the film itself!).......now if they would do a track for ESCAPE FROM L.A.....

Did they ever cut a Simpson commentary with John Swartzwelder? I remember they mention he wouldn't go in for one. They called him during one, just to get his voice on tape. He was cooking a steak. They just told him how great he was and everythig.

I'm still trying to figure out why the current SIMPSONS writing staff wants nothing to do with him (maybe its jealousy).

Isn't that the same commentary where they end up watching another movie when some people leave the booth....like halfway during the commentary? That was Dodgeball. Stiller, Vaughn and Thurber all get pissed at one another, leave half way through and a couple of stagehands play the commentary to "There's something about Mary" for the rest of the film. EDIT: From IMDB: The DVD contains a fake commentary where the director and two main actors do nothing but fight, and claim to hate each other, before storming out 40 minutes on. The commentary is then replaced with the commentary for 'There's Something About Mary.' The real commentary is on the DVD as an easter egg.

I also like The Simpsons commentaries with Al Jean and Mike Reiss and some of the other guys. Though there was one episode that had about 11 people on commentary all talking over each other that sucked for that reason. Agreed. But I hate the guy who would open the commentary with that annoying 'Hellllllllllllllllloooooooooooooooooo'. And the time that guy brought his kids into the commentary booth was idiotic. My favorite of those commentaries is still the one where Jon Lovitz is commenting off mic...even though he doesn't have a character in the episode.

I haven't heard it myself, but Orgazmo's "drunken commentary" by Trey Parker and Matt Stone sounds like it could be interesting.

Seasons 3 and 4 of Futurama. Their commentaries are often even funnier than the episodes.
Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, where all of the commentaries are in character, and hilarious.
"They should call black women's make-up Ethnic Cleansing."

There's also a short commentary on the "Wake Up Ron Burgundy" bonus movie for Anchorman where it's Ferrell and a fake producer who gets hot with him. Hilarious.
