Ok so when ever I come down to 2 movies on with or one without commentary i normally go with the one that has it. What are some of your faves and why.
Spinal Tap: I like this one a lot because they stay in character the whole time and truly act like it was a real band and real people
Detroit Rock City: has 3 commentaries, Director, Kiss , and one with the actors. The Actors one is worth it just for James DeBello every once and a while talking over every one else yelling about why he is not on the screen and how dumb the rest is because he is not there. Like some of them would be talking about movies getting rated R but then because of columbine they were told to make it PG, and Debello starts yelling about how boring it was and started talking to his character on screen
which ones do you guys like?

I HATE the in character commentaries... they are annoying. Like Ricky Bobby... or the beginning of the 40 year old virgin. Bleh.
Im a sucker for the Back to the Future Trilogy, and the first 6 seasons of the Simpsons.

The commentaries Kevin Smith does on his Films are really awesome. Can't go wrong with them. Even the one he did with Richard Kelly on Donnie Darko.

A character commentary that was awesome was on Bubba Ho-Tep where Campbell played the part of the actual Elvis critiquing the movie and Campbell's portrayal of Elvis. THAT was hilarious.

The Kevin Smith commentaries are, more often than not, funnier than the movies.
Although Mallrats is definitely the best commentary out of all the films, the Clerks X commentary is fairly funny (gets off to a nice start talking with uber-producer Scott Mosier talking about seeing Kevin's mom naked)

Bubba Ho-Tep commentary with Bruce and Don Coscarelli, then Bruce as Elvis eating a bag of chips while talking about the movie. And Bruce, Sam Raimi, Scott Spiegel and Greg Nicotero doing "Evil Dead 2" commentary is HI-larious.
I also like The Simpsons commentaries with Al Jean and Mike Reiss and some of the other guys. Though there was one episode that had about 11 people on commentary all talking over each other that sucked for that reason.
Red Dwarf series commentaries are of course great as well.

For the more serious commentaries, I like the Frank Darabont ones for Shawshank and Green Mile. The Mile one rocked when he was told by some girl to mention Pretty in Pink from Harry Dean Stanton's credits. He's only one guy, very entertaining and while hitting all the technical stuff without being overly boring in the process. Jersey Girl has a great commentary, as well. "She was on a horse."

Im making a list as we speak; Tim Burton's for Edward Scissorhands I was looking forward to; but it was REALLY boring. Not even technical boring; just boring. I thuoght he would be more charismatic then what I heard, maybe that's why/

I don't really watch a DVD for the commentary, but I did enjoy listening to Tobe Hooper and Gunnar Hansen telling stories about the making of "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre".

Anchorman. For about five minutes, they just go on listing things you can't say on a DVD commentary. You can't say "dick salad."
Jason Goes to Hell is another good one, where they basically laugh at their own movie for an hour and a half. "I can't believe we thought that was scary. A BACKWARDS IRONING BOARD."

Though there was one episode that had about 11 people on commentary all talking over each other that sucked for that reason. Agreed. But I hate the guy who would open the commentary with that annoying 'Hellllllllllllllllloooooooooooooooooo'. And the time that guy brought his kids into the commentary booth was idiotic.

All the Kevin Smith commentaries are like one big party. Favorite line - "Phantoms's Ben Affleck."

I love the They Thirst commentary... Carpenter and Piper don't seem to have spoken in the years between the movie being made and the commentary being taped, and they go into quite a few wrestling tangents.
When Steve Coogan does commentaries as Alan Partridge, that's great.

Hunter S Thompson on Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, As high as a kite and seemingly alternately terrified of and amused by what he's seeing. Hilarious stuff.
John Waters on anything. He's always funny, warm, and honest. Listening to his commentaries is like listening to an old friend talk.
Paul Verhoeven and Arnold Schwarzenegger on Total Recall. So awful it's fantastic. A sample of what you get:
Verhoeven: "Ooh! Ahnald!!"
Arnold: "Jah!?"
Verhoeven: "Zees ees zee part vere you meet da lady and you beat her up!!"
Arnold: "OH JAH!! HA HA! I remeber dat! Eet vas fun to feelm eet!"
It's the battle of the incomprehensible bohunk accents.
