In my most honest opinion, I saw the 'Cosmic Wars' episode a few nights ago and I didn't think it was funny at all. It was just utter crap, I thought. The older episodes (right up to '98) I still adore though. Now, it just tries to be like Family Guy and fails miserably at it. Just my viewpoint though.

Unless ratings drop considerately, it's not going to happen. It's basically how a show can get cancelled.
And also, Simpsons is still a huge draw and a huge global brand. If FOX ditch it, they'll be pretty much shooting their own legs off.

I still mostly enjoy it. The show has changed, and usually isn't as good as it used to be, but really, how could it be? Living up to what it was is a high bar to get to.

If anything should go, it should be Family Guy.

Now, it just tries to be like Family Guy and fails miserably at it. So does Family Guy now. It's a shame that Simpsons lives as a shell of its former self, but FOX may be stupid, but they're not stupid enough to drop Simpsons until either ratings bomb or the people responsible just want to stop. I wish they would have cut of Simpsons and replaced it with Futurama. At least it had somewhere to go. But it's not the same as a brand.

They're bringing back Futurama on Comedy Central with new episodes, so you'll get your wish.

I know they are, I just wish they would have kept going. Right now I'm worried the new Futurama will be like the new Family Guy. Utterly repetitive and full of itself. I hope they don't skip a beat.
But then again, Futurama isn't done by Seth MacFarlane.

Does Homer still work at the Power Plant? I haven't watched any Simpsons in the last 2 or 3 seasons so I have no idea, do they still do the "Homer Wacky Job of the week" type of thing?

I still like it, although I didn't think the episode about Bart dropping the pop fly during his little league game was funny at all.

I can't wait for the 4 Futurama films. They're being split into 4 episodes each which are what's going on Comedy Central, and the films are released on DVD which I'll get the day they're out if possible.
Hopefully they'll do great and get a full new series(or more) commisoned. Futurama is better than The Simpsons and Family Guy in every single way.

Because it was canceled before it had the chance to go stale... I still love Robot Hell with the Beastie Boys and the episode where a civilization grows on Bender's body

If you compare newer Simpsons episodes to older Simpsons episodes then you tend to believe that it sucks and should be ended.
However, if you compare newer Simpsons episodes to the other trash that gets greenlighted onto our TV screens, you tend to think that Simpsons is still really good.

The Simpsons is still better than 99% of the shit that's on TV. It's been said for near 20 years now and it's still true; a bad Simpsons episode is better than a great show of anything else.
The Simpsons is not trying to be like Family Guy, Fox got too much control into the Simpsons and wanted it to appeal to everyone, as opposed to most everyone.

The decline of the show is so sad to watch, especially given how funny and entertaining it was in its earlier years (Seasons 1-9 or so). Now, each episode is loaded with guest stars and all the characters are over-exaggerated parodies of their former selves. Their writing staff can't seem to produce a decent script either. I'll just stick with my DVD sets for the first 9 seasons of the show. Anything after that, IMO, just isn't really worth watching.

Just a prediction: The Simpsons will never die. Even after all of the original writers have given up on it, there will be other writers more than happy to take it on.
