The other day I was shocked while speaking to a friend from the netherlands. I brought up Steve Urkel and George Jefferson. He had no clue who they were yet they were icons here. It really blew my mind.

I was talking to a fellow from Jordan the other day, I don't know if it shocked me or not but I did think it was kind of funny the he seemed shocked and quite pleased that I knew a lot about his country. Also, I guess the Rush Hour films are pretty big in the Middle East.

I was amazed when I discovered how awesome Finland is. My interest got peaked because of Ludvig Borga, and I've been obsessed with Finland ever since. I hope to go there one day.

I was shocked to find some countries still think Canada is cold all the time and we live in igloos.

I knew a guy from Ohio who was certain Albertans spoke like the characters in Fargo. We would literally spend hours arguing over this. I'd point out any Albertan I could think of he'd know of who doesn't sound like that. He never bought it.
Also, the myth all Canadians say "aboot".....I've never heard it. Plus, I take offense to people who use it as some kind of insult against Canadians, coming as it does from a nation filled with people, not all Americans say it, but too many do, say the word "axed" when they mean "asked" and "ideaer" when they mean "idea" or "sawer" when they "saw".

I knew a Canadian chick who would say it more like "Abewt", and would occasionally say "Ay?" instead of "Eh?".
She also had boobs that would put Trish Stratus to shame.

I think a lot of us Canadians do say "eh", but it slides in so well, the rest of us don't even notice. Some people are worse offenders than others, some people use it as their only form of punctuation. I was out fishing, eh I was in the boat eh and I got a fish eh and we clean him eh "Eh" is one I gotta admit to. It is used a lot.

I have heard Canadians say "Aboot" before. It's not pronounced so heavily though. Like General said, a better spelling the pronouciation I heard might be "Abewt". I have heard Americans say "Idear" and "axed". I've never heard "sawer" myself. Nothing really surprises me about forgein places because I like to learn about other places, and I don't assume they share the same pop culture we do.

I was about ten or so and was visiting Great Falls, Montana. I ordered the fish and chips, expecting fish and f***in' chips.....so I got f***in' potato chips. This is when I learned I needed to order fish and fries because Americans don't consider French fries chips.

I was about ten or so and was visiting Great Falls, Montana. I ordered the fish and chips, expecting fish and smurfin' chips.....so I got smurfin' potato chips. This is when I learned I needed to order fish and fries because Americans don't consider French fries chips. Well... All I know is that where I live if somewhere has "Fish & Chips" on the menu you get fish & french fries.
