Simple question.
I know some people strongly hate this film. I don't know how anyone on the forum feels about it so I thought I'd throw it out there.
I know I'm getting it tomorrow.
Anyone else?

I don't think SM3 is a bad movie...technically.
Its just an incredible mess that out "incredible mess" SUPERMAN RETURNS.
Which is saying something, you know?

Most disappointingly bad film of the year. I would have to say I half-agree with you there.

It was a rolling clusterf***, and so it was bad in that aspect.

I've soiled myself. I think it is a clusterf***, but not necessarily a bad movie. Just incredibly inconsistent, a story with great ideas blown off to hell, no story at all, characters contradicting themselves every 5 minutes, a movie trying to be both a trilogy closer and open up for more sequels and failing in both... You know, a mediocre-ass movie, and they annoy me alot more times than the bad movies. Albert Pyun's CAPTAIN AMERICA is just s*** on a silver platter. Like Bryan Singer's SUPERMAN RETURNS, Raimi's 3rd Spidey movie could have been something. But in short notice, I say SPIDER-MAN 3 isn't a bad movie. Its just like BATMAN FOREVER. Rather damn annoying. I gave the movie a **1/2 back in May, but more and more...and considering that technically SUPERMAN RETURNS is a better (or at least more coherent) picture... A ** mediocre score is a very real possibility in a score-change of mine.

I enjoyed it. There are a few things that I would have changed. I must be one of the rare people that enjoyed Superman Returns as well Granted neither of those two films could ever touch Batman Begins. I am however, excited about Spider-Man. I'm content with the original trilogy. I think its time to go with a different director/cast for the future films. It would bring some freshness to the franchise.

And lower the budget costs*, I'm sure. *=I mean, SPIDER-MAN 3 was, unless things have changed, the #1 movie this year at the box-office, and its profit margins was like only $50 million. That's what happens when you have a $300-325 million budget.

My only problem with the film is that they tried to cram too many stories into one movie. The alien costume and the story of Venom could've been enough material for two movies. And that's without even mentioning the story of the Sandman (the best part of the film IMO by the way). So if you ask me the problem wasn't "no story" but too much story for one movie so everything was rushed. It seemed odd that he was able to defeat Venom in only a half hour's worth of movie.

Spidey 3 was okay, but it really suffers in comparison to Spidey 2. I wish they had picked one main villain to focus on instead of splitting their attention between FOUR villains ("bad" Peter Parker, Sandman, Venom, Green Goblin 2). Spidey 3 is what happens when you try to edit a year's worth of comic storylines into two hours WITHOUT removing any characters.
I think I'd rather get Superman: Doomsday instead, at least that had the good sense to remove characters in trying to edit the storyline to a manageable format.

In that viewpoint, you are correct, and I sorta agree with you. The difference is, all that stuff could have been gelled into one cohesive narrative, without feeling like too many chickens in the pot. But the massive rewrites screwed the movie. The original idea of Sandman to be this anti-hero, which venom Spidey confuses him as a baddie, to the Sandman taking over Spiderman's role as the protector of New York... Hell, even Sandman's role in the finale was different. The was that Venom-Brock has Sandman's kid hostage, and unless the Sandman helps him take out Spiderman, the kid jobs to the afterlife. Then during that whole fight, Sandman turns on Venom, and what was described to me was Sandman/Spidey/Harry against Venom. God damn, that would have been awesome. But alas....

There were some aspects of the film I enjoyed.
I really liked the confrontations between Spidey and Harry..especially the one back at Harry's mansion. I thought that was well done.
Sandman looked amazing. One of the best rendered CGI characters I've ever seen in a movie.
As much as I like the film..its certainly not without its faults.

I'm a huge Spider-Man mark, I was a tad disapointed by the film, but still enjoyed it. I'll be picking it up.
