I saw Creep last night. Good film. Interesting concept of the London Underground. I really liked how they humanized the villain near the end where you look into his eyes.

I watched Halloween III: Season of the Witch last night - always amazes me that this film doesn't get the respect it deserves.
- Wish it wasn't titled as a Halloween movie, as there is no reason for it to be part of that series, and actually, Season of the Witch makes only slightly more sense. Hard to know what to title it - Halloween is perfect as a title, if there wasn't that series already.
- The payoff of the mystery of what the masks and the Silver Shamrock ads actually do is totally horrible, and I recall now why I was so scared as a kid.
- I'm sure they cut a little from the death of the random woman who messes with the Silver Shamrock receiver - certain it was more horrific and insect ridden in the broadcast version I saw years ago.
- The Silver Shamrock theme is horribly addictive, I'm not going to get that out of my head for days.
- The ending is awesome - I actually saw complaints about it online. Stoopid IMDB boards.

I think after they "Killed off" Meyers in the second one they were hopeing to take the series in a new single movie direction.
But after the backlash of a Halloween movie without Meyers they rethought thier plans and went with what the people would pay for.
It was a great movie on it's own. Just wish it wasn't compared to the rest of the series.

In the last month I've watched:
Macabre - weird Lamberto Bava movie about a crazy woman in New Orleans who keeps her lover's head in the fridge... her daughter is also a killer... her landlord is blind... just weird.
A Blade In The Dark - guy writing musical score for horror movie is staying in remote house, when people in the neighborhood start disappearing.
The Black Cat - psychic trying to communicate with the dead whose cat is going around town killing people... or is it? Creepy '80's Italian horror.
Friday the 13th 1 and 2 - haven't seen these for a while, found'em on 1 disc for $10. Couldn't resist. Like slipping into a pair of old shoes that still fit.

Just wish it wasn't compared to the rest of the series. The oddest thing is that it massively cleared its budget on the first week, and went on to gross, in the US alone, $14.5m on a $2.5m budget - if it had've been a standalone movie, that would've been a pretty sweet gross, it's just that the Halloween movies had been smash hits prior to that. Of course, it's likely that as a non-Halloween movie it would've lost the benefit by association, but the fact that it was so different yet saddled with comparisons to the original films may even have held it back. Also, who can expect a second sequel to keep up financially with the original - you can hope it happens, but y'know, diminishing returns and all that.

You get no argument from me.
I was just going with a theory on why it was titled the way it was.

That's entirely possible. Prince of Darkness doesn't get the respect it deserves, neither does In The Mouth of Madness.
Carpenter has always been way more hit than miss with me.

Wolf Creek
Now this is a good horror film, the killer is very well acted and you can really get behind the characters.

In the last month I've picked up and watched the following:
"The Conqueror Worm" AKA "The Witchfinder General": period horror about Matthew Hopkins, a man who travelled the British countryside in the 1600's procecuting witches. Some brutal torture scenes (for the time, that is... it ain't "Saw" by any means) and beautiful scenery, and not done in an 'over-the-top' campy style. I liked it. Score: B.
"Killdozer": 1970's made for TV movie about bulldozer that gets possessed by alien thingy and starts killing a construction crew on an island. I was expecting a campy movie but it plays the story straight. Rather than the dozer 'sneaking' up on people and killing them one at a time, it played out more like "Jaws" or "Tremors" where the characters knew what was happening (just not why) and were trying their best to deal with it. My bootleg copy was pretty washed out, but still worth watching. A solid B.
"Ghostwatch": A 'live' BBC documentary from a haunted house. Wow... I can see why this caught people off guard. Everything seemed so... 'live'. Very scary. A+.
