I was thinking if Super Heroes actually existed would we at all feel safe or would we live in a world filled with more fear and panic than the world we currently find ourselves in?
For Example who would we be more afraid of Bin Laden or knowing Darkseid could try and enslave us all at any moment?

Truth be told, I imagine humanity wouldn't be phased. How often has Supervillian X destroyed an entire city... planet? Yet there are never any reaction shots of mourners.
If anything it would be a bit creepier in highschool with all the kids having X Ray vision

Would the UN really let someone like Doom be in charge of a nation?

Would the UN really let someone like Doom be in charge of a nation? The UN has let plenty of real turds run countries before

"Not only does Latveria house weapons of mass destruction they also have an army of robots in Doom's likeness ready to defend their borders." Thank god we would have S.H.I.E.L.D.

If superheroes were real, they would be in a form like they are in the Watchmen and DKR. They would be freelance for awhile, but eventually, would work for the government. Being a superhero would be illegal, anyway, since any form of vigilante justice is frowned upon by the justice system.

I'd probably be trying to get Starfire (Koriand'r) into my bed, unsuccessfully of course.
Unless, of course, I had some decent super powers myself. That way I'd be cooler than Dick Grayson.

If Super Heroes were real, so would be Super Villians. At which point there'd actually be a job description out there for a career I'd love to be involved in.

I was thinking if Super Heroes actually existed would we at all feel safe or would we live in a world filled with more fear and panic than the world we currently find ourselves in? For Example who would we be more afraid of Bin Laden or knowing Darkseid could try and enslave us all at any moment? If normal people had powers, the world would fall into chaos. I believe that most 'supers' would become villains because they are motivated by their own self-interest. Why go to work when you could just rip the door off of a bank vault? Granted, not all powers are nasty, but those that aren't would just be used for entertainment anyways (at least, it would take extraordinary circumstances to motivate 'supers' with B-grade powers into action... like the Legion of Substitute Heroes becoming revolutionaries when the Dominators took over Earth). But the ones who decide to 'uphold' the law would be more dangerous. Who would you rather deal with if you were caught doing something illegal: a cop (where you'd be arrested and have a chance to be defended in a court of law) or a 'super' vigilante? If you're lucky, you'd be 'citizen arrested' and place into the system, but if not, you'd be beat up or even killed... Anyways, to answer the original question: I wouldn't feel any safer, but I'd be more worried about the vigilantes than the villains. I wouldn't worry about Darkseid deciding to blow up my part of the planet, 'cause there ain't sweet FA I could do about it, but I'd worry about being incinerated by a laser beam if I accidently ran through a 4-way stop.

the world would be a terrifying place to live in. I mean, I know full well that if I had the kind of powers Superman did, at the very LEAST I'd probably turn into a bloodthirsty vigilante, and a dictator at worst. that's why I always liked the Wildstorm stuff, they built an entire fictional world around the concept.

I'd say it would be even worse because in every single anime I've watched or comic I ever read the heroes themselves treat the city like a rental. Japan gets levelled in almost every anime cartoon that ever existed except InuYasha because they're wasn't much around to destroy back in medieval Japan.
Sure they'd kick the bad guys' azzes back in line but at what cost?

Sure they'd kick the bad guys' azzes back in line but at what cost? If Godzilla and his giant monster friends were real, Japan and especially Tokyo would be totally screwed. It would be stomped flat, then rebuilt in less than a year only to be stomped flat AGAIN, and this would go on forever.
