Don't listen to them man. Play it. Enjoy it.
If you notice, most of the people that are really down on it, are people that don't really play it anyways.

But to be real honest, Guitar Hero doesn't have the feeling of self-gratification when compared to playing real guitar. Sure, Guy A can play "One" on Expert, but can he even noodle through "St. Anger" (Metallica's easiest song to play, just a bunch of chords) in front of 50 people? It's good finger training, but playing Guitar Hero does not make you automatically good at guitar. I think the South Park episode pretty much exemplified this. That is true, but if you get half the gratification for 1/5th the price and about 1/20th of the learning curve, it's a good deal no?

but you don't talk in yellow text... also GH3's alright, rock band is better and is more fun but GH3 isn't that bad. you'll just be cursing out neversoft for trying to make a game gear towards the GH junkies... and failing.

I save the yellow for my thought boxes. [Don't you dare question me again, or I'll send Weasel to get you... I'm feeling to lazy.]You know, if I had my normal text bubbles and all I'd be okay, but here on the boards it's rough going. When I'm really in the mood I'll talk like this.

Crap, I just bought this game an hour ago and now after reading the responses in this thread I feel like taking it back. GH3 is definately worth the time and money. it just dosen't live up to GH2... but it's still a good game... neversoft really effed it up though... just proving that harmonix is the brains behind guitar hero without a doubt.

I'm one of the aforementioned people who play the guitar, but also love playing rhythm video games. Personally, I am a bigger fan of rockband than guitar hero, because rb is great for spending time w/ family and friends and I like the tracklist, and the ability to use 12 fret buttons rather than only 6 a bit better than guitar hero.
To me, what makes these games great is that, for the casual kid playing these games, they learn hand-eye-coordination, rhythm, dexterity in their hand, and a little about rock music history in general. Also, I can honestly say that there are times when Guitar Hero and Rock Band are harder to pull off than the real guitar. When it comes down to it, both are fun. The video games in a fantasy, instant gratification sort of way, and mastery of the real thing in a lifelong accomplishment sort of way.

Personally I love it. It's a great game to have when you get together with friends and have a few drinks.

I was huge on GH when 1 and 2 were out, but once Rock the Eighties hit and the note structure was so blatantly horrible, I kind of lost my interest in the series. When GH3 and Rock Band hit, I gave both a whirl and was surprised at how much more fun the notes and structure of songs were in Rock Band then GH3. It felt like you were playing the songs again, not going through the motions on a plastic guitar. I'm pretty sure it's safe to say that Harmonix were the brains behind the outfit and, even though they get crap for joining up with EA, they're much better at making a fun game then their counterparts. I'm with you 100% on that. Harmonix makes great rhythm games because a lot of their team is comprised of musicians. They love music, and it shows in their work. The note charts in the first two GH games were like a lovable bastard child of TAB; using five colored "notes" it actually looked like you were kinda playing the real song. Neversoft completely bungled this up on GH III because they just wanted to make the game harder. "Have some random ass three-note chords! Not enough? Have a four-note chord! Ba-ha! Now for some un-needed hammer-ons and pull-offs! Faster! FASTER! MORE NOTES! MORE, I TELL YOU!"I just can't have any fun with GH III anymore after I realized this. It's completely bizarre, but EA's game (Rock Band) has much more heart and soul put into it than Activision's (Guitar Hero III).

i can't stand any of those games. with all the time that these people waste playing the game, they could learn to actually play. and for those of you who use the excuse "well i already know how to play (insert instrument here), i just do this for fun", that's great. but, still, that gaming time could be used to practice. you can never be good enough. EDIT: and if you have a better time playing the game than the actual thing, quit now. Do you go up to people who play Madden games and tell them "Man why don't you just go join the NFL!?"

Because only a selected hundreds of athletes are good enough to play NFL, NHL and so on. I'd rather tell, why don't you just go join a minor league team/play with some friends? As a long time amateur soccer player, and long time soccer games player, I'm much more satisfied after a good game with my friends than after an awesome match on PES2008.
