So yesterday I tried out my teenaged cousin's Christmas gift and I really don't see the big deal about it. Sure it was easy to grasp but I didn't think it was that much fun or interesting.
Maybe it's generational gap thing since I'm well into my 30's or maybe it's because I have played real guitar in a real band many years ago that I don't see spending that much time or money on Guitar Hero as a valuable thing.
One positive is I like that my young cousin is getting introduced to good Metal and Alt-Rock and perhaps that will lead to a creative outlet or knowing more about music.
If you love the game and feel offended remember it's only my opinion. But for all the hype I wasn't that impressed.

I don't think it's a generation or being in a band thing, seeing as how people like Slash love the game. It just isn't for everyone.

ROCK BAND IS KIND OF LIKE GUITAR HERO THE PARTY GAME. iT HAS VOCALS, GUITAR, BASS, AND DRUMS, AND IS MADE TO BE MORE ACCESSIBLE AND LESS DIFFICULT.
Sorry about caps, I am not fixing it though.
I love the games. Once you hit a grove, your hands just want to play the games. Hell, some songs I can't hear without seeing the fret buttons flash in my head.
I am not in a band myself, but I work extensively with them.

what is Rock Band? I don't play video games much. Think Guitar Hero, only with more instruments and a bigger blow to your wallet.

what is Rock Band? I don't play video games much. it's like guitar hero but it's made by harmonix who made guitar hero 1 and 2. the difference between guitar hero and rock band is that rock band allows you to play guitar, sing, or play drums (all with a guitar, mic, and drum set controller). some people like it better because they don't like the neversoft note charts in guitar hero 3.

i can't stand any of those games. with all the time that these people waste playing the game, they could learn to actually play. and for those of you who use the excuse "well i already know how to play (insert instrument here), i just do this for fun", that's great. but, still, that gaming time could be used to practice. you can never be good enough.
EDIT: and if you have a better time playing the game than the actual thing, quit now.

And then there's those of us who are gamers, and have no intention, time or want to make guitar playing our carrer choice so it doesn't really matter if we play the game or play the instument. Rather GH exsisted or not, I'd be using that time to play games since it's my wind down time after work. So how does it change anything that I just happen to be playing a rythem game called Guitar Hero instead of something like Halo?

Sorry, but any game that taps into my general love of air guitaring and acting like a rock star has my vote.
Plus, it helped my friend quit smoking. ;D

I mean I get what you're saying, but what I'm saying is that if I wasn't playing Guitar Hero, I'd just be playing something else. I love to listen to music, but I don't have it in my to want to learn an instrament. I mean yeah, it's a nice skill to have, but a skill I just don't personally need nor want. I'm not playing these games to get laid anyways. If that was my goal, I'd be downtown.

I get you. I do pick on the people that go TO far on Guitar Hero myself. I see people that can play without looking at the screen on Expert level, and you know what... if I went that far with it, I WOULD rather learn a real one. But I never plan on putting THAT much time into it. I've played football in my life and baseball, and I've trained to wrestle. I've had enough real training for now.

The fret board is coming at you like normal, but you can't see the notes. It's pure memory and rythem. That, like I said, is when you know it's time to get a life. It's not like I'm ALWAYS playing Guitar Hero anyways, I have plenty of games. It's just a nice way to relax and hang out with my brother the little bit of time I get to see him in a day.

I've never really gotten the big deal anyway. You're essentially just hitting the buttons that the computer does, so it's kinda like a more modern version of Simon*
*some of you are old enough to get that.
Love the avatar of the OP btw.
