I've been watching wrestling for the majority of my life, but I think this video finally makes me take that leap from Vince's side-show for kids (HAM SAMMICH) and stay exclusive to MMA, which I have started to enjoy more with the new burst of interest (and to be fair, Couture, Ortiz and Liddell are better than the earlier UFC guys). The video in question: video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2810170922897779466&q=prideScrew pro-wrestling, I think it's time I moved on to something that feels legit. Pro-wrestling late 90s had that feeling to me, but I still want that legit bad-ass athlete feel to what I watch, not this cartoony shit that is on TV.

Whilst I have no problem with MMA, if you want to see wrestling that's serious and not flashy, why not watch something like ROH? It's wrestling, kayfabed but very realistic. Anyways, good video. Still not enough to make me switch though. I've been a wrestling fan almost since I've been born, and I'm not about to change just because of a slump.

Great video. I liked the one where Don Frye nearly got his head knocked off with a kick from, I think it was Gary Goodridge.

Still not enough to make me switch though. I've been a wrestling fan almost since I've been born, and I'm not about to change just because of a slump. Because, somehow, when I watch wrestling I want someone to be there with a presence, and not just random people, like how I feel with ROH. I like the Taker like gimmicks, the HHH gimmicks, the realistic/mature gimmicks. I like wrestling for the gimmicks. When I watch MMA, I kinda feel like everyone has a gimmick. They are all bad ass. They aren't just "there" like how I feel with ROH and many have a "look" to them, unlike many in ROH/indies. Then again, there are those guys who are nameless fodder in Pride and UFC as well. But if I want to watch something for the fighting/sport, I'll choose MMA. It used to be wrestling, because honestly, the fakeness in wrestling can look more brutal than any Hollywood movie. Wrestling can be top-notch brutal if done right. But then comes that whole having to get into a guy's character deal there as well. It's complicated. Also, I don't usually watch online videos/DVDs. I prefer watching TV live or else I don't watch anything at all.

I don't watch American wrestling anymore either for a number of reason, some of which you listed Gillberg. So I get some Japanese wrestling through the mail. It's way better than anything I see on American TV. But have you ever been to a house show Gillberg for any promotion in the states? I like those 10 times better than the product I see on TV.

I can say that if the WWE stuff is turning you away, you should check out the Independent shows. They are much more entertaining than the stuff on the WWE television shows ...

No one with "presence" in ROH? You're suggesting that Samoa Joe, Morishima, Homicide, KENTA, the Briscoes, Jim Cornette, CM Punk, Raven, Steve Corino, and Colt Cabana don't have presence!? [faints]

[faints] I'd say out of those guys, the ones who haven't made it big or are just starting to make it big that have the look I'm talking about are Homicide and CM Punk. Joe is already big, as are Corino, Raven, and Cornette. Morishima looks like a girl. Kenta doesn't do anything for me nor do the Briscoes. Don't get me started on Colt. I don't like the guy. When it comes to indies I seem to be a bit biased, but I have every right to be more critical about them than what I get free on TV because to watch these feds I either need to steal or pay for the matches. Not to mention the whole thing I said above, in that I don't really watch DVDs or tapes, and unless its under 10 minutes on the internet.

It's kind of fruitless to look at MMA and Pro Wrestling as directly competing products; they're just too radically different in too many respects.
Even ROH, a company based more on actual ring-work and in-ring storytelling...well, there's that word, "storytelling". It's still pre-determined, there are still feuds and storylines to get across and advance, there are still gimmicks to be performed. Same in Japan, where, for ages, Pro Wrestling has been treated like an actual sport.
I could see saying "Well, I'm tired of the fake stuff", but comparing them directly? Eh, I don't see the reason to.

There like all different categories to me and I enjoy watching them all, each for different reasons. I don't think any of them are better then the other, I love them all and am entertained by different aspects in each.

I like the Taker like gimmicks, the HHH gimmicks, the realistic/mature gimmicks. Not a knock against you, but I don't see how a wrestling zombie is a realistic/mature gimmick.

I think a MMA fan is more likely to enjoy TNA/WWE over ROH. MMA fans watch real fights so they're not gonna be impressed by "the most realistic wrestling matches possible" - people who watch real fighting are going to want some ENTERTAINMENT on the side, which is where TNA comes in.
I watch MMA, so when I turn on wrestling I wanna see PROMOS and CHARACTERS. Not all this phoney baloney 23409293 holds crap. It's 2007, we want entertainment, don't insult our intelligence by pretending your promotion is running in the 1970s. Yes, even Bryan Danielson's matches look FAKE. Shocked? lol

Well I've watched MMA since before it was called MMA(when I was about 10). I think your problem is thinking the WWE properly portrays pro wrestling. Try watching indy and japanese stuff. Me, I feel you don't have to be exclusive to either rasslin' or MMA. I'm a huge fan of both. Lil' Krone Meltzer is too. haha
