Personally, I rather like Edge's spear. I don't like it as his FINISHER, but I like it in general. I think it looks great.
My personal least favourite spear is Batista's. He just kinda flops into his opponent and they fall over. It looks really clumsy. Then again, everything he does looks clumsy.

Speaking of Rhino, it's important to note that Rhino is friends (IRL) with Edge.

Heh heh. Cry me a river, Michael Cole. I think if I hadn't liked Edge before, Cole would have put him over for me right there just with his self-righteous hand-wringing. I love how he keep saying, "I can't even get it straight in my head." Well, maybe that's because you're an idiot. Um...*ahem*. Sorry, that was off topic, it just needed to be said. Yeah, that one didn't look great, but I've seen him do it much better than that just in the few clips I've been watching since starting this thread.

It's not like he's AWFUL at it, but it could just look better. Out of the three guys using it right now (Batista and I think Bobby), Edge is much better at it. Sometimes it looks good, but when it looks bad, it looks REALLY bad.

Another thing to consider, not only did Goldbergs Spear look like it broke people in half, it was his set-up move!

I can't figure out why Edge is using it at all. At about what time, exactly, did he start using the Spear as a finisher? I was watching some old Raw tapes from 2000 and even back then as part of the Edge/Christian duo, he was using it. He actually 1st to my knowledge did it at the 1999 KOTR. Still have it on PPV so I remember it well. The Hardy's did thier move where matts on his knees and jeff hops off matts back and leg lariats someone (The name of the move escapes me for some reason) Instead of getting caught with it Edge hopped to the 2nd turn buckle and speared the crap outta jeff hardy. The crowd popped for it big. Even though the Brood lost they showed the spear a few times after the match and showed it again the next night on RAW.

he hits it so slow and weakly that's my problem with it. it's like playfull tackle. It also has to do with his frame. Now the Pounce is the best tackle/spear move in pro wrestling. Agreed. The Pounce is by far the best spear/tackle, followed closely by Rhyno, and honorable mention to Warrior for the shoulder tackle.

Another thing to consider, not only did Goldbergs Spear look like it broke people in half, it was his set-up move! That's why Goldberg was so awesome. He just destroyed people. He gets a bad rap just because of the Bret thing (and I'm a huge Bret fan too).

I always thought his spear looked like a running hug.

I can't figure out why Edge is using it at all. At about what time, exactly, did he start using the Spear as a finisher? It's really been off and on his whole tenure in WWE. He's tried to get other moves over (Downward Spiral, Edge-U-Cation) but he gets the best reaction for his spear. He's used it as a finisher when he was a solo vampire, a tag team with Christian, as a solo face and Rated R Superstar. At first the Downward Spiral and the Edge-e-cution were pretty awesome finishes and that Edge-u-cator submission is just cool Now the DW is used by everybody in wrestling and he stopped using it. the DDT he used was pretty awesome and I liked, i still like it, i don't even know why it's a transition move nowadays. Really the only spears edge does that look cool are the ones flying out of the ring, when the dude is tied up in the ropes, and the top rope spears. those are cool.

Goldberg looked like he could kill you with his spear
Rhyno does the run.impact.spin out gore which is fine (i think people will get what i meant there)
Edge used to do it ok (before '06) because he used to dive into the move and hit on the way now....now he just runs and does a knee slide stomach clothesline hug

I can buy Edge's spear as a finisher that can get you a 3 count. But as one of the more powerful finishers? Not by a long shot.

OK, I'll start this off by saying, as I have before, that it sucks Edge is stuck using a Spear as his finisher when he's had more interesting finishers like the Edge-a-Cution/Downward Spiral and C.O.D. previously in his career, and that the spear in general has become lame through overuse. Now then... I've seen several people say that Edge's Spears aren't executed right or look strange. At least one person referred to it as the "running hug." I concede I haven't paid enough attention to examine it closely or compare it to the Spear as executed by one of the 168 other guys who currently have it as a part of their regular moveset. So what, exactly, is the matter with it? What's he doing wrong? Anybody have videos or something for comparison? His spear doesn't seem to be "far enough away". Goldberg and Rhyno stand to the far side of the ring, take three or four steps and BAM. Edge actually meets you half ring sometimes and it just doesn't look as hard hitting.

So what, exactly, is the matter with it? What's he doing wrong? Anybody have videos or something for comparison? The problem is the lack of power andextension. When Goldberg hit the move, he would add extra power to it by pushing off with his toes just before impact. When Goldberg hit his opponent, Goldberg's entire body would be completely airborn and nearly parallel with the mat. He entirely committed to the move, and it looked devastating as a result. Conversely, Edge just kind of falls into the other guy, and his knees hit the mat before his opponent does.

Edge's spear doesn't look effective at all, it's like he starts up a head of steam to run at the guy then when he reaches him, he kinda veers off to the side so only his forearm clotheslines the guys abdomen, as opposed to Goldberg's where it looked it he was going to run straight through the guy and kill him. Summed up the best right there.

It depends a lot on who he's hitting. A good seller can really sell it. Sometimes though it looks like he's trying not to hurt them, for example Ric Flair
