OK, I'll start this off by saying, as I have before, that it sucks Edge is stuck using a Spear as his finisher when he's had more interesting finishers like the Edge-a-Cution/Downward Spiral and C.O.D. previously in his career, and that the spear in general has become lame through overuse.
Now then...
I've seen several people say that Edge's Spears aren't executed right or look strange. At least one person referred to it as the "running hug." I concede I haven't paid enough attention to examine it closely or compare it to the Spear as executed by one of the 168 other guys who currently have it as a part of their regular moveset. So what, exactly, is the matter with it? What's he doing wrong? Anybody have videos or something for comparison?

When he does it, it looks like he is clothes-lining them them in the stomach. To be fair, everyone else on the roster does an equally bad Spear. It's sad when Goldberg does a move better than you.

I think it's fine, people always say he is to small to do it but believe me I've played football for years and the little guys can hit big.
Lashley's has been getting pretty bad though he just kinda runs into them it's like a bad pounce.
Goldberg had a really good spear.

Edge's spears don't look quite right sometimes but wax if I can describe it. If anything it makes them unique but sometimes it causes them to look sort of weak. I don't know what to say really. I'll look for some videos an edit my post later if I can find what I'mm looking for.

Goldberg's spear was sick. But then again, he was a football player, so it makes sense that he could tackle someone and make it look good.
Lashley's isn't too bad.
Edge's problem is he doesn't get the pop to make it look effective. He just kinda runs up to the guy and kinda hugs them. It just doesn't look good.

I like Edge's spear. One thing I think makes the Spear look really good is when they twist before they hit the ground. Makes it actually look like two people crashing into each other.
Goldberg's of course was better, he was built like a brick outhouse, his power sold the move.

Goldberg made the spear for all of wrestling. Everybody else that does the spear is cashing in on his pop. theres no need to hate on Goldberg
Edge's looks weak becuase he's not that fast and he he's not very heavy

he hits it so slow and weakly that's my problem with it. it's like playfull tackle. It also has to do with his frame.
Now the Pounce is the best tackle/spear move in pro wrestling.

When you see Rhyno do a spear, it just makes Edge's look weak. Especially since you can tell the other guy is doing as much for the move as Edge is.

Yea. It just looks weak. Only stocky guys like Rhyno or Goldberg can do it properly. And no Lashley and Batista don't count.

I can't figure out why Edge is using it at all. At about what time, exactly, did he start using the Spear as a finisher?

Edge's spear doesn't look effective at all, it's like he starts up a head of steam to run at the guy then when he reaches him, he kinda veers off to the side so only his forearm clotheslines the guys abdomen, as opposed to Goldberg's where it looked it he was going to run straight through the guy and kill him.

The fact that everyone on the roster uses it makes it a bad finisher. But really, Goldberg's was nice. Of course, you have to know how to tackle/forcefully double leg.

I can't figure out why Edge is using it at all. At about what time, exactly, did he start using the Spear as a finisher? It's really been off and on his whole tenure in WWE. He's tried to get other moves over (Downward Spiral, Edge-U-Cation) but he gets the best reaction for his spear. He's used it as a finisher when he was a solo vampire, a tag team with Christian, as a solo face and Rated R Superstar.

It is not a convincing finisher in the slightest.

youtube.com/watch?v=jYZVqrreyLUThis one on Rey looks good, but only cuz Rey is small/sold it well. On a side note, if anyone else posts video game clips on Youtube anymore, I'm gonna start busting out some Jeet Kun Do on motherwaxers.

edge's spear just doesn't have the explosive power that rhyno or goldberg have. they're the only 2 i have ever seen use the spear and make it look like a killer move.

I've just been watching some clips myself. If anything, it seems to me that the problem is his height. He could use a little more speed, yes, but the impact looks pretty good. The thing is that he seems to hit it fairly highly up on the opponent's chest as opposed to around their mid-section.
