He had not been written out of the title histories, they just removed the links that discuss his title wins.

Yep, I don't want to hear about OJ's achievements nor do I want to hear about some child murdering piece of scum.

I don't blame them. Distancing themselves from him is probably their best option right now.

its pretty smurfing stupid they should just keep his name in there and don't really talk about it that mcuh. whats it gonna hurt to have the guys name listed in the title history and thats it? i could understand maybe taking out some matches from dvds or something but other than that...the guy has been such a big part of the last decade, screwing with stuff is just going to make it all seem confusing.
if barry bonds committed murder today, his recrord wouldt get erased.

It's wrong. The NFL doesn't try to pretend O.J. Simpson never existed. But I heard they're doing the same thing with Michael Vick right now. Granted, he's still alive, but can you blame them for not wanting to associate themselves with someone who's supposedly done things as gruesome as he has?

We are adults and should not treated like children bring him up he did it. Lots figures in history been murderers we don't strike their names from the books. One my relatives murdered his own son and I don't pretend he wasn't a relative of mine.

i am just against the view point that anytime someone commits a horrific act like this, anything else they have done in their life mustn't be mentioned for fear of sounding like you support the horrific act. let alone one we will never fully understand.

Ten to fifteen years frpm now in the long scheme of things Benoit is just another dime a dozen wrestler. Some of you act like the absence of Benoit from the industry due to his untimely death and removal from links hurts wrestling. The fact is that if we are honest with ourselves that he was an upper mid card wrestler AT THE VERY BEST. I have probably been watching pro wrestling longer than most here (25+ years) and trust me there have been better technical wrestlers than Benoit. I'm not trying to discount Benoits wrestling ability. He was a good wrestler but he lacked in charisma and ring psychology and his matches were too robotic and scripted. But I think a lot of people are acting like he was a legend when he was nowhere even close to that. In the end he was a mid card wrestler who had his moments due to his longetivity IMHO. Benoit was good but I've seen a hundred wrestlers who were overall better. The WWE can easily afford to remove Benoit because it wasn't like he was a mega mainstream superstar. Sorry, but Benoit was awesome. He won titles in 4 different countries, trained in two of the hardest dojo's in the world, was very good for 17 years including being involved in a countless number of great matches, was over, inspired many people to become wrestlers, and was probably the most loved wrestler on the internet. Good luck with arguement, you're very much going to need it. If Benoit was so awesome than why did the promoters not book him near the top or at the top for most of his career? Doesn't that tell you that professional wrestling is more than just supposedly being technically sound. I think he was a great technical wrestler but the problem was that his matches were extremely predictable and you could see his moveset coming a mile away. Like I said before I have seen a lot of wrestlers who were just as technically sound but overall better. As far as where he trained in dojos that is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things as far as being able to be over with the mainstream audience. Did Flair or even Angle train in dojos? Yet, both of these guys are way more successful than Benoit ever was in the ring overall. As far as the internet it really only represents a vast minority of fans that actually watch the matches. Let me clarify again that I am not saying that he was not a good wrestler. He was a great technical wrestler but what held him back from being a true star to the masses is his lack of charisma and ring psychology IMHO. His matches never really felt that epic and if you saw one of his matches you seen them all because it was like a choreographed play. I guess maybe since I have watched wrestling so long that I am not impressed with Benoit since I have seen countless people as good as him. One of the best I have seen was Ricky Steamboat yet he had ring psychology something that Benoit lacked.

I dont expect WWE to induct him to the Hall of Fame. But i think it was a mistake to remove the link in his name in the title history, That brings even more attention. Future wrestling fans might see that and wonder why he doesnt have a link to his name.

I think it sucks that he's been removed but look on the bright side, we won't have a Gooker winner for the Exploitation of uh that uh guy.
I'm not mad at him, but I am disapointed in him.

there is no right or wrong answer here. the wwe is put in a real rough spot here and i do agree that not to mention or talk about him right now is probably the best move right now from a p.r. point of view. but look at a promotion like world class, having to deal with the deaths of david von erich, gino hernandez, and bruiser brody at the peak of WCCW. that seems to be the best model to follow at the moment.

I guess maybe since I have watched wrestling so long that I am not impressed with Benoit since I have seen countless people as good as him. One of the best I have seen was Ricky Steamboat yet he had ring psychology something that Benoit lacked. Benoit was booked at the top in Mexico, and for some shows in NJ. He wasn't a heavyweight until the second half of his career which is why it didn't happen in America. Seriously, until Benoit how many lighter and smaller guys were ever pushed to the top in WWE or WCW? When he did get booked at the top in America, he was accepted, and it went fine. He was the subject of crappy booking though as he was in a fued with La Resistance, and was playing second fiddle to HHH/Eugene. You also can't compare the careers of him and Angle or Flair. Angle was a gold medalist, and was pushed from the beginning, Flair had already been around for 20 years when Benoint came around. The only difference between a dojo and a school is the name, and the fact that wrestlers sometimes live at dojos. Benoit's training history was mentioned many times. If you watch any wrestler, you have an idea of what formula they are going to take, and what they will do when(There was a time when I was calling Y2J matches move for move). Every wrestler seems formulatic, and there's a reason for that, so people know when to pop. I've found many of his matches to be epic, including his RR match with Angle, his SD match with Brock, his cage match with Angle, his 3-ways with HHH/HBK, his Super J Cup final with Sasuke, one of his matches with Sullivan, plus others. Your arguement is stupid, and I really don't know why I'm bothering.

Benoit was a great technical wrestler but I think it is stretching it to say he was thee very best. I have seen other technical wrestlers which I would class as better overall in the ring and better entertainers as well. Kurt Angle and Bret Hart would be two that I prefer watching in the ring. I think Benoit's lack of charisma was why he was a midcarder for so long in the USA. Sure he got a title run in the WWE and deserved a run with the belt for all his years hard work but it was a complimentary run at best. I don't think they had long term plans for him and you could guess that from the fact that RAW was still mainly built around Triple H and Evolution and not on its world champion Chris Benoit. It could have been because of Triple H's infamous backstage politicing, or it could be because they knew that Benoit was not very good at carrying promos which is usually what is needed to advance storylines in the current WWE. Benoit was a very good performer but I don't think it's fair to pounce on somebody just because they don't rate him as highly as the rest of the IWC.

If you look at Dr Black and Jerry McDevitt's interview with Konnan and Marc Mero, Jerry McDevitt denied that Konnan ever worked for the WWE

Benoit was a very good performer but I don't think it's fair to pounce on somebody just because they don't rate him as highly as the rest of the IWC. I never said Benoit was the best, that belongs to Jumbo Tsuruta or maybe Flair. I think Benoit was very good, but classifying him as a midcarder, when he won the world's title in two different organizations is a sham. Benoit also has had more good matches with varied opponents than anyone this side of Ric Flair, plus he did this in 4 different countries. That's part of what seperates alot of other guys from him in contention for the best. Benoit was pretty good at promo's. They aren't poopjoke promo's like Cena, or catchphrase promo's, but they are much more believeable. Benoit's size was the only thing holding him down. If he had been about 4 inches taller, I gurantee he would have gotten a quicker push in WWF. Kevin Nash, who was booking WCW, was calling him a vanilla midget, and Sullivan, who also booked, didn't like him much for obvious reasons, so there's no way he was going to get a big push in WCW.

Give it time. Right now they are standing away from what happend as they should. Let things calm down a bit for a year or so and Benoit will be recognized as a wrestler and wrestler only. Like OJ Simpson is remembered as a football player only? Really now, at least try to be logical about it. Seriously, I can't imagine how people are taking this as an affront. I think committing murder is a damn good reason for a company to want to distance themselves from an employee, especially when the storm hasn't died down yet.
