Bear with me a minute and give this a chance before you get out the tar and feathers (or the butterfly net and strait jacket), please.
Consider some of the similarities between Nitro and Michaels:
-Both use pretty-boy, chick-magnet, "sexy" heel gimmicks.
-Both first became prominent as half of a tag team. (MNM and The Rockers, respectively.)
-Both had tag team partners who disappeared from the WWF/WWE and had substance abuse problems. (Joey Mercury and Marty Janetty, resectively.)
-Both have had high-profile female managers. (Melina and Sherri Martel, respectively.)
-Both have at one point in their careers used the Superkick as a significant part of their moveset.
-Both have long hair and sunglasses as part of their look (Shawn used to have those little round shades in his early days.)
-Both have been linked to backstage politics. (OK, I admit this one is pushing it because The Kliq worked in Shawn's favor whereas Nitro was supposedly being held back because of Melina's rumored nuclear heat, but still.)
Anybody want to jump on this bandwagon or at least give me credit for the effort?
If I wasn't generally apathetic about pro wrestling right now, I think I would become the board's #1 Nitro mark. It's not that he's that great right now (and I can't say I approve of his taste in women), but there's a lot of potential there. And heck, somebody has to take his side against the army of Punk fanboys here. (No offense.)

I hope so. At least then we know WWE has a future. Nitro just needs mic skills and he'll be on the road to stardom.

I've been thinking this since i first saw Nitro. Everyone on here always seemed to be so high on Mercury, but i always saw him as the Jannetty of the two.
Either way, i agree with you sir, well called.

Johnny Nitro is more a delusional hollywood style of gimmick than HBK just a prettyboy gimmick. I think they try to run a thing once of Nitro being a scientologist? They should run with more stuff like that to separate him from HBK wannabe.

I've thought this for a while. IN FACT, I once made a thread fantasy booking the WWE, with an entire years worth of buildup to Nitro vs. HBK at Wrestlemania 24. Thats what they SHOULD have done.

I've thought this before, but ECW has really drilled it into me. Nitro has all the makings of a future big leaguer.

HBK was great but the world doesn't need another.

I've long thought this as well, the only thing about Nitro is it's hard for me to imagine him as a face.

Until he learns how to talk, Nitro will remain leagues away from Shawn Michaels.

One has great charisma and personality.
The other has tight abs.

Nitro can't talk at all, which is something HBK always had.
I say no. Also, I don't think he could grow the chest hairs.

Nitro just like Jeff Hardy had, has the potential to be the next HBK, BUT he needs mic work

I've felt the same way for a while, except lately Nitro has finally added some good psychology to his matches. His voice needs work, maybe he should start dipping.
