Hi all,
Until the WWE Section is back open I am making this the one and only Benoit News thread.
I will be monitoring this until Madison gets back online.
Keep it within the rules of the board and keep it serious and to the point.
Thank You
Joker

According to Dave Melzer of the Wrestling Observer, Vince McMahon was the “inspiring general” yesterday for grieving wrestlers and staff for the entire day. McMahon held it together and was leaned upon by many for support. As you can imagine there were a lot of emotions to deal with and many within the company are having a very difficult time dealing with what has happened.
McMahon decided to go forward for the SmackDown and ECW tapings tonight, but they will run with no angles or backstage storylines. The original plans for this week’s shows have been scrapped and will feature nothing more than straight wrestling matches. It has been extremely hard for WWE Creative to put anything together as the crew and staff were said to be both emotionally and physically a wreck yesterday afternoon.
Apparently WWE will brief viewers on what happened in the beginning of each show and will produce two very low key shows that will feature talent wrestling.

It's the right thing to do.

That's probably the best thing to do right now.

I was actually going to suggest WWE do this. It's a good idea.

Makes sense, start anew next week and give creative some time to figure how to take things from here.

Hell... i say keep like this for a month or so....
And when the story lines do return... make them more Wrestling based..... not completley ROH like... but if they have "Sports Entertainment" storylines... they need to be funny or comical...

I hope Punk wins the ECW title tonight in a straight up match between him and Nitro, maybe with a handshake after or something.

I hope Punk wins the ECW title tonight in a straight up match between him and Nitro, maybe with a handshake after or something. I really doubt they'll do a title match tonight, especially since it's straight up wrestling with no storylines. And I really doubt that anyone else actually wants a title match. I mean do you really want to see CM Punk win the title right now, that badly, in the shadow of this?

Perhaps briefly taking our mind off this tragedy.

If any good comes out of this, maybe it is that we get the return of wrestling. No more sports entertainment.

well that sounds a bit cool, but I say get back to business next week, on a shit happens basis. They are going to have to move on eventually, why slow the process...

with the information coming out late last night and today I seriously doubt we see any arm bands
With the spotlight the WWE is under right now..straight wrestling is the best way to go and hopefully they can get back to normal soon.

Seeing Vince as collected as he was actually was inspiring to me, too. It's a burden of being a leader.

Perhaps briefly taking our mind off this tragedy. I understand that, but maybe it's just me in thinking that a tragedy shouldn't be downplayed with a title change and that likewise a title change shouldn't be overshadowed by such a tragedy. I want to see CM Punk win the ECW title too but when he does it I want it to be something huge, not a footnote in all of this.

I don't think we'll see any title wins today.
And I definitely don't want to see CM Punk win the title right now. Do you guys really want to see him get the Rey Mysterio push? I sure as hell don't.

wouldn't surprise me to see a title change tonight but I think they will wait atleast a week to start back with the storylines.
I honestly expect a Nitro-Punk rematch but probably non-title

Yeah, here's the latest update from WWE.com: www.wwe.com/inside/news/benoitupdateIt's basically the same text as this morning, but with the difference being that the police are now officially calling this a murder/suicide instead of saying that it's just a speculation. I am guessing that there is some concrete evidence that the police have which hasn't been made public. This is indeed one of the saddest days to be a wrestling fan. Obviously it is sad that we have lost such a great wrestler, but the manner in which it happened will forever cast a dark cloud on his great career.

I'd rather not, as much as I'd love to see Punk get the title, not under those circumstances. We don't need Benoitsploitation.

The updated AP story going around today states...
* "Details of the death will prove a little bizarre"
* Police from the beginning felt they knew the cause of death and that it was a double murder-suicide, but don't want to rush to judgment untill all the details are in.
* Autopsy results should be out around 1 Eastern time today (26th)
