I can only judge his WWE run, since I've never seen him on ROH. So far, I rate him as GOOD/VERY GOOD in the ring (better than many others). His mic work had consisted, up until recently, of "I'm straight edge. I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't do drugs. My only addiction is competition. My name is CM Punk." Lately, he's shown a little more depth. I get the impression from him that he can impress me, but I'm still waiting. His matches with Morrison were damn good, though.

Very much like RVD, in that he had a reputation leading into WWE, is very over, has a unique look and style, and any amount of success he achieves won't be deemed enough for his fanboys.
I love Punk. I'm glad he's doing so well.

I'll say this about him. He does seem to take his craft seriously, which is more than I can say for someone, like....say...John Cena, who might take his craft seriously when he's not trying to be a Sports Entertainer. That Cena kid never could walk and chew bubble gum at the same time.
Ultimately, CM Punk has potential. As to whether he deserves to be the ECW champion or not, remains to be seen. Honestly, does anyone watch ECW? You're only as good as the product you represent. In a different era, CM Punk could have been a very viable character; an asset to any organization he chose to work in.
This all cycles back to the WWE's monopoly on the industry and the progression of "Sports Entertainment" if you ask me. The only thing the monopolization has done is hurt this industry.
TNA and ROH are not credible threats yet, and until they get rid of their respective outlooks, they never will be. ROH is noble, but antiquated while TNA tries hard to be something it's not while claiming the contrary. "We are wrestling". My ass you are.
Anyway, back to CM Punk, he's overrated, but that's the fault of the wrestling fans expecting too much of him in a Sports Entertainment enviornment. It's also the result of not being truly polished as a professional wrestler. Sure, he's closer than most. But close only counts in horseshoes, hand grenades and women.

IWC's love for him built him up wayyy to much for me to enjoy him on a non cynical level. However, he is a solid worker, has charisma, and seems to have a real love for the business. Never seen his ROH days so no clue on all the "actual" mic skills people preach about. Too lazy to look em up too . All in all he'd be a midcarder without ECW, but if he has one breakout feud I could see him cracking the glass ceiling. Still not the wrestling messiah the IWC makes him out to be.

With WWE filled with big, steroid-injecting hosses, Punk is a welcome change of pace. He has an original look and a different style than most in WWE. He is good on the mic as well as in the ring, and he has that "it" factor that I think will help him become one of the top wrestlers in WWE one day.
Punk also does the little things well, such as facial expressions and the selling of a body part throughout a match that many guys don't do. His lifestyle makes him a good role model in this day and age. Kids as well as adults, smarks as well as marks cheer for him.
The internet probably does over-hype and over analyze any report that comes out about Punk, but there is no denying he has talent. He has entertained me since his ROH days and I hope he continues to do so for many more years.

He is a very talented ring worker, and is a complete natural on the mic. He's exactly the type of person who can make it far in WWE. Honestly the only thing I can see perhaps hindering him is his size -- in that he's not the hulking type like Batista or Lashley. But I could see him becoming a guy similar to Bret Hart, in that he earns the respect of the fans through his ability and natural charisma.

I think he is one of the best wrestlers in WWE. That being said, I have no idea how people call him innovative. Dude steals moves like none other, and I dont mean, move here, move there. He has stolen at least 3-4 moves off of KENTA alone.
However, he makes what he has work very well. He was better in ROH, where he was allowed to cut his promos, and given 20-60 minutes per match. Just look at his title win. He got 15+ minutes, and he and Morrison put on one of the best TV matched in memory.

A pretty good worker who has been more or less ruined for me by all the smoke his fans have been blowing up his ass for the past 3 years.

Good wrestler, Not great. Very overrated and isn't as over as most his fans like to think he is. Example.
Couple weeks ago against knox, The crowd was dead and Punk got some boo's.
Last night, Again the crowd was dead during his match. Did you see the reaction of the crowd when Morrison defeated Punk, They just stood there. No outrage, No booing, No throwing things in the ring. They acted like they could care less he lost. To me, That says he isn't as over as people think he is.
I haven't seen his "awesome promos". Yeah, The promos are scripted but he doesn't make it work. Edge, MVP, HBK, HHH promos are also scripted and they make it work regardless. They can draw the crowd in and get a reaction, I have yet to see that from Punk.
The opinions about Punk really come down to 2 groups. The ones who seen him in ROH and has seen more of his work.
Then the ones who has seen him just in the WWE (like myself) and can base my opinion on what I have seen him do in the WWE.
Again, Good wrestler, Not great. Not a top 10 wrestler or top 10 in means of being over. The last 2 weeks have proved that on ECW, As the crowd was dead both times even with him being out there.

He's an excellent wrestler and performer all-around.
He's also yet another example of the "Only amazing once you see their indies work" wrestler type.

Just a thought,
Who exactly are those people that have labeled him the "Best Thing Ever"?
Can someone give me examples? Because as far as I see, everyone keeps saying he's overrated, and no where near being "The Second Coming"

He's one of my favorites on ECW, but that's not saying much. I like his energy, look (although the frequent Straight Edge reminders don't interest me at all), and interaction with the crowd. His move-set is OK, but a little boring when he just kicks people forever. At this point, I see him as a midcarder on Raw/Smackdown, challenging for/holding the IC/US title.

Just a thought, Who exactly are those people that have labeled him the "Best Thing Ever"? Can someone give me examples? Answer: They can't. I've never seen anyone talk up Punk as the Almighty a quarter as much as his detractors like to make it out. Maybe they just need to grasp at straws and come up with reasons to dislike him because he made a name for himself on the indies, and as we know all indies = SMARK SMARKETY IWC SMARKA SMARK. That won't stop said detractors from saying again and again when his name comes up, however.

I think he's one of WWE's best newer guys. I'm not sure why he's supposed to be so much better than somebody like Orton or Kennedy, but that's beside the point.
All that stuff is just a question of who is more popular on this message board. And even that is hard to judge. People notice more if someone they like is the one being criticized.
I like just about all the newer guys right now though, Punk, Morrison, Burke, Kennedy, etc.
