I'm in England, so I don't really understand this...is NBC part of the same "family" as USA and SciFi?

Yeah, they're all owned by NBC Universal - which makes SmackDown being on the CW stand out like a sore thumb.

This will be good for my Netflix subscription. I hardly use it now.

I think I can say, without hyperbole, that that's the greatest thing I've ever seen.

If it makes the WWE try to improve in an attempt to increase viewers, then I'm all for it. It's not like Sky Sports here will air it any differently anyhow.

Word is that production has indeed halted on Heroes, and they're thinking of possibly ending the series on Episode 11.

They always use wrestling as a cheap filler in these situations.
I like it better the way it is. Bad enough I still forget Raw is on USA half the time.

Just a shame that we can't come in and write RAW. Then again, that could be a good thing, as I'd book Mickie to win every belt on the show on the same night.

I think the WGA are shooting themselves in the foot here. This could give rise to a new wave of reality tv popularity, and tv dramas will not neccessary die out but start appearing less and less on tv schedules.
The WGA might get want they want (dvd payments), but I'm willing to bet there will be a lot less work to come back to.

Good for WWE, sucks to lose Heroes though. That is a damn good show.

Maybe TNA ad UFC will get more time on spike to help fill the void. Either that or spike will just show star trek shows over and over again.

No, if your show is successful you get paid more. Thus you get a reward for writing a good show. If your show is rubbish but has a small cult following and thus sales well on dvd, those dvds will a) be expensive as studios wont want to lose out on the profits they are now used to and b) a reward for writing that didnt manage to really break through. Not to mention how smaller, independent companies who put out cheapo but occassionally enjoyable films wouldnt be able to operate if they lost a share of dvd sales to writers. Plus of course, once you grant writers a share of dvd profits, the actors will want the same thing and so you set a precedent. On top of this of course is sometimes you come across a film that is filmed, directed and acted really well, enough to make you want the film, even though the script may be lacklustre and poor. Why should a writer get a reward there? Now, at best, successful writers should be able to broker a deal into their contracts of employment that claim they can have a share of merchandise, which if they are good, a studio may consider. even in big budget hollywood movies (ie making over $100m) the writer usually gets a one off fee of less than half a million. and as for your last point this is what the strike is all about - the CANNOT broker deals as the system has them in handcuffs. statistically even the people who make the dvd cover make more money than the writer. I don't see how a system can have them in handcuffs. If they write a show and a studio want it, then they broker in a deal for profits surely? I see no reason why a writer couldnt try for this, infact for top shows like Heroes, Lost or 24 they are indeed probably entitled. However, once it becomes a strikeable union driven issue like this it means that every writer in a union will believe themselves entitled should the unions win. That includes writers who produce rubbish. And that shouldnt be the case. Write well, get a reward i can agree with. Get something extra for writing crap, i dont agree with. Either way, im really pissed at the writers for going on strike mid season like this. Studios can hold out on reruns and lots of new reality tv shows, they dont need lots of writers. If the writers are indeed so badly paid, a few months in and im sure many will be forced to turn scab. As such, shows will gradually return, studios will win and the only people who will be annoyed will be show fans who have had to wait months for a new epsiode because of a bunch of writers who will be percieved as greedy and will not get much public support.
