I've never understood the weird "anti-rehearsal" takes you get from some pro wrestling circles. Whether it's calling it in the ring, or designing and choreographing an entire match beforehand, whatever gets the best result should be all that matters. I get that in some specific cases being able to adjust the story of a match can be beneficial if the crowd isn't going with it; but also when is that ever allowed to happen in WWE anyway? Their over-scripting is so limiting that giving the wrestles that much leeway would never be allowed, so who cares?

Because you see they HAD to do Triple H and Cena. They couldn't deviate from a compelling program such as that. When else would you ever see something as inspired as Trips in a Mania title program?

The takeaway from all this is that the fans don't matter to WWE. I think if you added a 'hardcore' before the word fans in there, you may be about right. Large numbers of people have hated WWE's product for decades at this point. But they continue to have millions more willing to watch and buy tickets to their shows. As ever, the comparison isn't to what that number of fans in North America was like in 2001, it's what it is compared to the other sport and live TV properties around the world. And on that the WWE continues to score highly. The hardcore fan is what they rely on more than anyone else. Do you believe that whatever passes as a casuaL fan today would invest 5-6 hours a week into WWE programming? There's a big difference between treating yourself/family to a live show and actually being a regular part of the eyeballs that they rely on drawing money from the networks.

WWE does have a serious long term problem of fan retention. I honestly believe they've lost all ability to draw in new long term fans, so they have to work with the dwindling pool they have, and it keeps getting smaller each year. There's going to come to a point where they'll have to seriously address it, because one day that Saudi money will stop coming in, and Networks are going to start asking questions if the water in the pool keeps evaporating. The fact they can produce new and inexpensive weekly content won't mean much if relatively no one's around to watch it.
Mind you, this isn't going to happen any time soon. But all trends continuing as they are, it will happen.

I'm not surprised, no one has any sense of job security. Plus the success of the company is hinged on cutting back costs, and not on any real performance based metrics. The wrestlers, despite typically being the product promoting the brand are pretty incidental to what they're actually selling, which is basically just generic content time filler.

I mean, it's pretty obvious why this is coming up in the news now. Fans genuinely trust AEW to act on these things rather than the Saudi Arabian propoganda machine on the other side. The fact that the websites of the worst newspapers in the English speaking world are covering this kiiinda makes me suspicious that his recent employer may have reached out to friendly outlets and they had damaging coverage ready and waiting for his debut. That’s possible too. They’ve been pretty unscrupulous in throwing their former contractors under the bus.

I want Shane to show up in the crowd at an AEW event but only be identified as Shane [no last name], the CEO of [insert the name of the Chinese company he worked for] and that's it. Never seen or acknowledged again. AEW is more likely to bring in Virgil who will be called Shane from his WCW days. All night long, Tony teases SHANE is here. SHANE is backstage. SHANE will be out after this commercial break. Then we see Virgil. I just had a really dumb idea that would probably only appeal to my idiot brain. AEW should hire both for like one or two nights tops. Virgil comes in first and is introduced as 'Shane.' Then the following weeks Shane McMahon debuts, but is introduced as 'Gregory,' since they've already got a Shane on the roster, and don't want to confuse anyone.

In terms of it being a Kane feud that didn't make much sense. This was certainly one of the many. Typically Kane feuds suck about as much as he does anyway, so I wasn't exactly surprised.
But I definitely remember how one sided this feud was. I don't get how WWE just doesn't understand that in order for someone to be an underdog, they have to regularly fight from underneath. If someone wins more often than they lose, they're not an underdog.

Remember last year when he was calling Strowman stupid? Or remember when he was feuding with The Miz, and he just kept beating him?

I love the idea of a conspiracy based around the notion that a publicly traded company has it so in for one guy, that they're purposefully hiding record breaking profits just to stick it to him somehow.
It's like comedy, but more the sad clown variety.

Kinda crazy how there's the graphic open mouth kiss, yet Michael Hayes still manages to be the most visually off-putting thing photographed.

So is Super Dragon just gone again? I remember him teaming up with Taurus and Flamita (I think) at the return show, but that's all I can tell has happened on that end.

Or maybe that happens at the Saudi Wrestlemania show. Who knows? Who cares?
