The fact that people chanting boring at THAT visual saddens me. I don't go along with a lot of the stereotypical ROH fan hate, but this is just lame. Then again, some people decided right away that they were so against this angle that they didn't want anything to do with it. Well, forget them. I'm now officially more stoked about this than anything ROH has done in the last 2 years. Agreed. This is going to blossom into something. But the fact that it didn't garner at least a "YOU SICK F***" chant disappoints me. There was more than one "YOU SICK F***" chant. The crowd let Jacobs have it after he drank the big gulp. Something Else I haven't seen on here, though I'm not reading 40 pages... I saw a few of the Ski mask guys going around to all the other guys, I'm guessing setting up the end. But After the match there was the sound of a lady screaming over the PA, then all of the "161" guys Pushed their way through the crowd and into the front row right in front of us. It was a pretty awesome visual. This was before Jacobs, Black, and Necro came out. They were yelling 161 stuff and then BAm. It was pretty awesome to be 2nd row for.

Now I really can't wait to see this! I wonder if they were people from the back or people who organized beforehand.

I think it was a mixture. There were a lot of regular fans there dressed in 161 gear... after the tapings though most of them lost the ski masks and bandanas thouh.

I can imagine wearing that stuff can get really hot really quick in a venue like that. Don't blame 'em. And I am glad someone was chanting "YOU SICK F***".

There were a couple of very vocal "You Sick ----" chants. One was for Kevin Steen DURING the match and the other was definitely for Necro Butcher. I certainly watch ROH for the wrestling moreso than a lot of the storylines, but this angle was put together very well.
One great thing about double shot weekends is that you get the best of both worlds. I loved Detroit because it was competition and match-focused with storylines/gimmicks/etc being forwarded with their in-ring work. For a PPV taping, you get a totally different type of show with mic work and dramatics as an integral part of the wrestling.
I don't know how big of a pivotal point last night was for ROH, but it seemed as if they're opening a new can of worms with 161 and Necro Butcher as part of the mix. If they use this to take the Briscoes (and others) in a more "extreme" direction, then the backlash is right around the corner, I'm afraid. On the other hand, they're opening the door for other interested fans. I'm still on standby, as last night's visuals will be burned forever into my wrestling memory bank as being awesome. As unpopular as this next statement will be on these boards though, I'm a bit apprehensive about Necro Butcher being at the heart of one of ROH's main angles, as it makes me think we will see more "garbage" wrestling (not meant to be as derogatory as some might think, just lack of a better term) in the future. What ROH does well for me is making the actual wrestling stand out and build-up to the occasional "gimmick bout" such as the ladder match from last night really has a big payoff in the end because it's so rare. I don't think I want to see barbed wired hands and other weapons as a staple for the ROH main event. I know Homicide and others have added the hardcore element, but for whatever reason, Necro is a contrast to what is normally ROH's "hardcore" side.
Something else that hasn't been brought up yet (I don't think anyway) is that I was very impressed with the Roderick Strong vs. Erick Stevens match. I enjoyed it thoroughly and I keep going back to it in my head. Strong does in-ring psychology so well in my opinion, and the match just seemed to have a lot more than was probably actually there (I'm sure some of you will know what I mean by that). And although he ended up getting pinned by Aries, Davey Richards had quite the weekend (Chicago AND Detroit) as well. I find myself contemplating how truly special this No Remorse Corps faction is. It's a group I know I'll be marking out for 10-15 years down the road when I go back through wrestling DVDs and have my little moments of nostalgia.

And by the way, the "BORRRRING" chants were pretty dumb. Actually, they were A LOT of dumb. Not just because of that, but for other reasons as well, I lost a lot of respect for ROH Chicago crowds this weekend. The way I look at it: when you come to a show, you should either (a)be prepared for the type of card you're about to be a part of--not just one match--and react accordingly or (b)go in with not much preparation at all but keep your mouth shut for stuff you know nothing about. I would NOT go into a cult/regional show in which I only had limited-to-no experience with and crap all over anything or go ape crap berserk markout OMG over anything. You shouldn't feel obligated to start chants or make noise just because people around you are not reacting, especially if you are just a "casual" fan in an unfamiliar atmosphere. Again, that's just my personal take on wrestling etiquette.
The wrestling paradox: Both the best thing and worst thing about wrestling are wrestling fans.
