I'm back with another Indy Thoughts poll. Hailing from Switzerland, I look at him and think one thing. 80s action movie villain. I don't know why, but I can see him replacing Alan Rickman in Die Hard. Given Rickman kick a great amount of ass, but I think Claudio would be a suitable replacement. I last saw him on the RoH Driven PPV and he had a damn fine match with Matt Sydal. Doing his role perfectly in a big guy vs little guy match. Sadly he was missing his ponytail and stache. A part of me died. Anywho, I'd love to get opinions from my fellow Crappers. And if you have any suggestions for another indy thread, by all means let me know.

He really needs that outrageous musctache and 'middle aged banker trying to look young' ponytail to complete his character, for me. I'm not trying to be clever ... he just doesn't look right without them.
Aside from that, what can one say about him? He's almost too good to be in the indies. And there are a TON of guys I love in the indy circuit, and in ROH in particular, that I could never see in WWE or another major company in the future. Danielson, Sweeney, Akuma, Quack ... I could go on for a whole paragraph. But Castagnoli LOOKS like a guy that could, and SHOULD, be making millions of dollars.
He doesn't have a disgusting, jacked-up appearance that whoever in charge of hiring in WWE seems to prefer, yeah (a look I really hate, as an aside). But otherwise? Tall and fit (so he has a 'larger than life' presence), he has an interesting way of speaking (from his accent and the fact that English seems to be a second language, but he's still very understandable), he's EXTREMELY mobile, excellent chain wrestler and a great brawler.
Total package individual. I'm proud to be a fan of his, because he's everything a great wrestler should aspire to be. And he's only improving with time, too.
That might sound a bit strong, but that's how I feel about it.

I'll add 'innovative' to that list. Every big match I see him in, he always seems to do something new - a new sequence, move, whatever. That's important for me, a person who gets tired of seeing the same match a dozen times, regardless of how much I like someone. That's my problem with McGuinness, but that's a rant for another thread.

I've not seen too many of his matches, maybe like 10 of them that stand out, but none of them are bad, so I like him.

Easily the one guy on the indies that I look at and always say "Why the hell isn't he on my tv every week?" He's just an amazing performer, charismatic, although is promos could use just a bit of work. How the man isn't a star is beyond me.

Claudio has refuted that if it was a work visa problem, then he wouldn't have been able to work ROH, Chikara, etc. In other words, it never became clear.

On thing that Caludio is really underrated on is the fact that he is by far the best base in Indy wrestling for smaller guys to work off. If you seen him throw around guys like Quack, Ricochet, Jack, Shelley, Sydal, Sabin, and Pelle to give them the position to head scissor/hurricanrana/armdrag him, it looks amazing, and makes the guy doing the move look like a million bucks.

I love him, especially his ROH stuff.
Until something outdoes it, he has my current 2007 Match Of The Year with his epic battle against Morishima at Death Before Dishonor V Night 1.

Very true. He can work just about any style, from European mat based submission, to American power, to lucha styles. He can adjust to look great against the big guys like Morishima, really shine against average size guys like Her and McGuinness, and bump like a madman for the smaller guys like Quack and Ricochet, etc...

I'm told by a very reputable source that in addition to being stellar in the ring Mr. Castagnoli also smells very, very nice.
