Indeed fantastic stuff. Still I'm inclined to mark out slightly more for Trips as the greatest heel wrestler of all time.

I personally err on the side of Jake Roberts as greatest heel, but Hollywood is certainly up there.

Hollywood Hogan, Jake Roberts, Ted DiBiase, Triple H, and Ric Flair really are the top of the heel game.

I really do believe this, he worked the crowd so awesomely during his matches. I don't get why "internet critics" base in ring action only on what goes on in the ring. Hogan would egg on the crowd to the point of him being pelted with trash.
He was a bigger heel than Ric Flair imo.
Best face and heel of all time, nobody else can really lay claim to that.

I mean, I love awesome technical matches like Danielson/McGuinness or even Shawn/Bret, but I also love fun matches like the ones Hogan had. He was never going to be anything close to a technical genius, but you were usually guaranteed a good time.

In my humble opinion the two best heels ever are Hollywood Hogan, and Ted Dibiase as the Million Dollar Man.
Hollywood Hogan was SO hated, that nobody believed he would ever be cheered again. Seriously. His boos were so deafening lots of folks didn't think he could ever turn face.

Most hogan fans by then were 12-15 and seeing somebody we grew up with turn his back on us was so damn ARRRGH!
I've also got to note that none of Hogan's moveset changed. He was already using eye rakes, back rakes, chokes, boot scrapes and throat shots when he was a good guy. The only thing he changed was taking a breather by rolling to the outside and jaw jacking with fans. and adding more trash talking.
Sorta like RVD how RVD's matches were long because of his extended posing/taunting sessions in the middle of a match. Seriously RVD has to be the only guy who got cheered for stalling.
Oh and Hogan again is the best heel AND face of all time, and the driving force of BOTH of the boom periods in wrestling.

Oh and Hogan again is the best heel AND face of all time, and the driving force of BOTH of the boom periods in wrestling. Here I'm going to disagree, but only a little. Hogan was definitely the driving force behind the 80's boom period (I'm assuming that's the "first" you're talking about), but I don't think he deserve full credit for the late 90's boom. He was certainly a big part of it, but I think several people were behind that driving force along with him.

I do think he was initially the driving force. I knew guys (including my brother) who hadn't watched or thought about wrestling in five to seven years, and when they heard, "Hogan's a bad guy!" THAT is what made them tune in for the first time. I was the lone reluctant holdout, "Wrestling sucks, it's for little kids!"
Once they started watching they'd go, "Wow, this Jericho guy is awesome! Check out Booker T. " The girls loved Rey Mysterio Jr.
But Hogan was what made them actually watch the first show.

Maybe it was 90% Hogan, and then the other guys took up the remaining 10%. But in the 80's it was definitely ALL Hogan. I just don't think it was ALL Hogan in the 90's. That's my point.

The way I see it is; as much as I don't really get excited about Hogan, he is the most important face and heel of all time.
That son of a bitch.

Oh i Know there were people around him I was switching between driving force and at the forefront of. Driving force just makes for a stronger arguement. STUPID ENGLISH You still cannot deny his importance as both the biggest face and heel of the two boom periods.
