It's the ROH equivalent to the People's Elbow. Whenever I think of it like that, it seems a touch more sensible. I think of it more as the Socko Claw. They each take a move that people buy as a finisher - decapitating clothesline and nerve hold, respectively - and jazz it up unnecessarily with a ridiculous gimmick (the sock and the flip, not the wrestler's gimmick overall) that separates it from the pack visually without any respect for the effect on suspension of disbelief. Just to be a nit-picky d-bag.

When the finisher of the WWE Champion is a fireman's carry, a hard hitting lariat is very credible.

I think if they tried to see it up like the diamond cutter, a move that he could hit in a wide variety of ways, it would be work better. Then the weird 360 thing could really be a counter as opposed to a just another set up. I mean, the Diamond Cutter was nothing special, but him being able to set it up a hundred different ways made it seem like more of a threat.

You people thing WAYYY too hard about that move.
I think it looks cool. A lariot with a little twist
If I thought of the logistics of something like an irish whip too much I wouldn't be able to watch pro wrestling

He's got a lot of lariats, if he got more wins with the others it would help, I think.

Yeah, the Rebound lariat looks stupid and on top of that it isn't special because he uses Lariats every 4 seconds in his matches anyway.

it reminds me of the old school wind up before that final punch that sends the heel opponent leaping into the air. first time i ever saw it, i thought he was working a dizzy/exhausted angle and was gonna fall out of the ring

Not much of a fan of it either. Sometimes it comes off nicely: but it's a really hit or miss thing. I love his new arm submission in comparison though. Dude, WEAK. That's why I have yet to purchase any ring of honor DVDs, despite all the good things I hear... Its just a group of people who want to rewrite the rules of wrestling psychology just to be different, and it ends up like that... This dude is British right?

This dude is British right? yes he's british, and the move has nothing to due with "wrestling psychology". before he started using it in almost every match it was a reversal. someone would push him into the ropes and he would do the move. it wasn't until it became his main finisher that he just stand someone up and do it for no reason

When the finisher of the WWE Champion is a fireman's carry, a hard hitting lariat is very credible. Yeah, but WWE is not the flagship of "OMG awesome wrestling matches and moves"... From the ROH Champion, the top of the top in terms of "actual" wrestling, I'd expect more than a lariat with some unnecessary and goofy-looking flipping...

How in the hell would you know who they're trying to be if you haven't bothered buying any of their DVDs? And no, "I saw a couple matches on the internets" doesn't count...

Well, the ROH wrestlers do wrestle elsewhere, I do watch the indies (fav being IWC), and of course as as you said not to say the net.

Here's my stance on it:
Like the Canadian Destroyer, it looks stupid when done every match. If you pulled it out once every blue moon, it'd look a lot better.
Plus, Nigel is a big man by ROH standards. It'd make sense needing a wind up to knock out Morishima or Joe, etc., but not men smaller than him.

It's not hard to have a good match with Danielson. And regardless of any indy fans, if I watched a match where the person only did lariats... It would be terrible to watch. It'd be like watching a SvR Online match in real life.
