The Benoits suing the wwe pretty soon?

From an article on FOX 5 News in Atlanta:

The legal battle for pro wrestler Chris Benoit's estate might be coming to a close and that could be bad news for the WWE. The lawyer for the Benoit family accused the WWE Thursday of contributing to the factors that caused the wrestler to kill his family and then commit suicide. A lawsuit against the WWE could be on the horizon, but for now lawyers for the Benoit family are hammering out the deal.

With Benoit's estate nearly settled, lawyers for the Benoit family are now setting their sites on the WWE, the wrestling federation that employed Chris Benoit. The WWE told FOX 5 News that the organization will not contribute any money to Benoit's children. The Benoit family says the WWE played a role in what drove Benoit to murder his family and then commit suicide, and accusation the WWE has denied.


I dunno if the Benoit's have a very good case since Benoit didnt ACTUALLY die on wwe tv and there is no proof that the concussions or steroids made him kill his family.

Also WWE was more than happy to give him 4 or 5 months off in 2006 so he could be with his family, so I don't think they would get very far.

Whats with everyone trying to make a quick buck as well these days? I guess its just people and their greediness for more money. With a tragedy such as this, it ridiculous how someone could just think of money and the benoits hoping for a quick settlement instead of finding the truth of what really happened and why. Damn moneygrubbers today!!!

It's pathetic and sad at the same time. Benoit didn't die while "on duty", and WWE have no obligation toward the family. Especially since it's Benoit's PREVIOUS family...

I agree that it's ridiculous, there is simply no case.

The only way they could possibly have a case is if a another WWE wrestler goes and kills someone - and it is then proven he did so because of concussion or drug related illnesses that the WWE forced upon them.

Since no other wrestler will likely do that, they haven't got a case. If they claim that is the way WWE treated Benoit and that's what caused the tragedy then they must think that every other wrestler is on the brink of doing so as well - if they are being so poorly mistreated. They aren't though. And it is each and every one of their choices to work the schedule they do and do streroids. Considering the WWE give time off when needed - and did so for Benoit, they really haven't got a case at all.

But I see little chance to win this lawsuit given the facts that steroids or drugs weren't probably the case for the murders. There is no proof whatsoever for the WWE or even the wrestling business to be responsible.

However, it's the U.S., the place of rididculous lawsuits... And IF the WWE had to pay I would not have the slightest sympathy with the McMahon, since they have made a HUGE profit from this f***ed-up business for a looong time.

Did WWE, Inc have know that Chris Benoit...

1) Had signifigant brain damage.
Even if a WWE paid doctor or a doctor on WWE's staff was aware of it, unless he breached the patient-doctor privellage, he could do nothing. However, since Benoit was constantly cleared to wrestle, a logical guess would be that there was no evidence of the brain damage.


And even if they prove that..

2) Did WWE possess the knowledge that their actions could lead to the events that unfolded?
Did WWE ever view Chris as a violent person and was there a pattern here?

I just don't see the burden of proof being pushed with the way that everyone describes Benoit. He kept personal information to himself and I doubt even if he was told by a doctor that he should stop wrestling because of the damage to himself, he would have not done anything. And if he kept passing tests, but was using masking agents to beat them, then that's the fault of the company WWE hired for not catching the masking agents.

I knew sooner or later somebody was gonna try to take on WWE in the good ol' Twelve Jurors and a Dream Jackpot after benoit died. Seriously what do they want WWE to do? Vince McMahon can't be babysitting these guys 24/7. Where does Vince McMahon's supposed duty to play wetnurse to wrestlers end and the wrestlers' own responsibility begin?

Sooner or later our society as a whole is gonna have to start owning up to it's f*** ups. We can't keep having big business or the government watching us like hawks "for our own good". Stupidity like this is exactly why we have warnings on food saying this stuff is hot.

Unless they have some written documentation that basically states that Benoit has to or should take steroids to keep his job I cant see where they have a pot to piss in or window to throw it out of.

rumour has it they don't have much of a case, which is why they only asked WWE for $2 million to settle. Let's face it, if they thought they had enough evidence they'd have asked for $10 or $15 million.

You have to remember the legal fees for the problems with the Toffolini's cost the Benoit's $600,000. How much will it cost for a long dragged out court case against WWE? And Vince will fight this every step of the way because he truly believes, rightly or wrongly, WWE had nothing to do with this.

Look, they have the money from Benoit's estate. That's enough to live comfortably and get on with their lives. Don't waste a fortune on a stressful court battle you probably won't even win.

I agree with this guy. I don't think it's wwe's fault, I don't think the Benoit's will win, or they deserve any money, but I wouldn't mind if WWe got taken to the cleaners.

I agree with this guy. I don't think it's wwe's fault, I don't think the Benoit's will win, or they deserve any money, but I wouldn't mind if WWe got taken to the cleaners.

Which is why pointless lawsuits continue to flood the system with little merit or proof.

I see what you're saying.. however, unless someone deserves to pay, I don't like the thought of them paying to a completely seperate incident because of history that's mostly unrelated.
