I didn't think about this until I read it in another thread, but whether you like him or not, the fued with Cena made Edge a true main event player. Sure some may say it's because he's the only good wrestler who'd actually get booed facing john Cena, and some would even say that heat was because of the Matt hardy thing, but for some people they just think Edge is just solid gold in his Rated R stuperstar thing.
so what do you think? Which incident made Edge a Major player? The whole Matt/Lita thing, or Bitchslapping Cena and his family?

His TLC match with Flair, which was really at the very beginning of the Cena thing.
Really it was his whole fued with Flair...

Honestly, he still hasn't gotten there for me yet. I like him and all, but he still seems to lack something for me to truly think of him as top tier.

I;ll be in the minority but I dont think Edge is "made". He could drop the title and be a midcarder without losing a beat. He has a long career by WWE standards and he's been involved in so many things. I dont remember him doing anything that made him a breakout star. Even when he beat Cena for the title the first time it was kinda cool, but by Raw the next night it was like "so what?"

That new attitude started with Matt...and it electrified with Cena.

Plus to me only having it for those three weeks that getting made a bitch out of did more harm than help.

While the whole Matt Hardy thing added fire to him being a heel, he didn't do a whole lot to establish himself until he cashed in his Money in the Bank.

I just have to ask, does that one guy still hate Edge with a disturbing passion?
I remember someone was going on about how they were boycotting Raw as long as Edge was champion. I thik they did it again when he showed up on smackdown and won the WHC. Is he still on smackdown revolt since december?

Smackdown has been pretty unwatchable for a while, it's not all Edge fault

And I'm certain he still has that undying Edge hate.

The Matt Hardy thing took an already solid heel turn to the next level. It gave it legitimacy. Can anyone imagine him going face at this point? I can't at all.
He's totally taken the ball and run with it. A lot of other guys could've dropped that ball and not done half as good as he has. Give him some credit where it's due. The fact that he's a solid worker only helped his cause. The John Cena feud was a natural, and IMO Edge was better than him in every which way during that series.
He is the best heel maybe in the entire business right now, easily the best in the WWE. I don't particular care for the "Edgehead" angle, but even before that he was a awesome heel.
So in light of the question, out of the choices, Matt Hardy (Lita). I don't think he's as hated without that angle, but in reality Edge made Edge. He was given the ball and he's run with it.

Hell, the way he hates Edge, you'd think Edge had had sex with his girlfriend as well as Matt's.

Matt Hardy. Think about him when he came back from injury 05ish. He came back and was generic face #3, even getting booed in Canada. It wasn't until the Matt Hardy/Lita/Edge thing that he went heel and got good heat. Flash forward and since then he's been a 2 time RAW champion and 2 time Smackdown champion.

I'd say Matt Hardy as well. (And not because I like Matt Hardy more than Cena, and I like them both) Edge was the psychopath "I WANT THE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE!!!1ONE" before the Hardy thing went down, and add the real-life screwjob of Matt with the in-ring burial of Matt, and Edge became one of the most hated heels in WWE.

Cena. Edge has the MitB before the Hardy crap came out. Edge was on the cusp of the world title and while I'm sure the extra boos that came with the Hardy angle while the fans cared didn't hurt, it sure didn't propel him to main event status and the world title, he was almost there anyway.

That match where he and Benoit both "won" the title at the same time.

With Edge winning the MITB, IMO WWE already had him planned to win the title at some point. He won it before Matt came back.
I think people started taking Edge as a main eventer when he defeated HBK at the Royal Rumble. Then had a great street fight on Raw. The the Taboo Tuesday deal with Edge -Benoit -HBK 3 way match on Raw to get fans vote, Edge won. Stock was rising. STILL NO MATT.
Edge just took the ball and ran with it. My question is, If people think the Matt angle made Edge ( Which I think Matt had nothing to do with Edge's rise. But I respect the people's opinion who disagree with that) Why didn't it help Matt?

Beating Mick Foley at Wrestlemania 22.
The Matt Hardy fued gave him noteriety, beating john cena got him the WWe title.
He created HIS wrestlemania moment, in spearing mick foley through the flaming table. that is his moment
