less interesting to plan?
I was chatting to my friend about this after 'Mania and we eventually discussed how Orton pinned Cena which I didn't quite know considering I hadn't watched the match.
I thought about it for a while and realised that this was quite a dumb move. Mostly because they've just let a potential money maker slip out of their hands.
Think about it. How much more of an interesting match would it have been at Mania if Edge was still undefeated? He wasn't involved at MITB and instead faced someone else and won. Instead of people thinking 'He hasn't got a streak because he didn't win MITB' and the 'E having to use the 'Never been pinned/submitted' route, people would be thinking 'Hang on, Edge is undefeated too at Mania, Edge might possibly win this' and you wouldn't need to do much apart from that. If Taker won, he would be killing another undefeated streak to maintain his own.
Back to Cena. Let's imagine that Cena won at 'Mania. Some of you may not like it but stay with me here. Think about the build to Wrestlemania 25 at Houston, Texas. Hometown of the Undertaker.
Cena vs. Undertaker for a World title. Streak vs. Streak. Fan Favourite vs. Fan Favourite.
Look at that and tell me that wouldn't draw a huge amount of people just to see this match. The crowd was buzzing when they fought before Cyber Sunday a couple of years back and that whole thing lasted 5 minutes before it was thrown out.
It might seem nitpicky and it might seem silly to point out, but I can't help but feel they let slip a potential drawing match. A HUGE Potentially drawing match.
But instead, we're just going to get the same fued as before. Which has worked before, certainly, but it would have been nice to spice it up a bit, you know.

I'd rather Undertaker/HBK next year more for the fact that they've been alluding to it in the rumbles...would be an awesome match.

Fan favorite vs. Fan Favorite? Sorry but I laugh at that. Cena is a fan favorite, but there is not a chance that ANY fan in that building would cheer for him.
Taker= Hometown hero. Cena= Superman who did enough that he doesn't need the rub of beating taker.
If Cena makes Taker tap to the STFU at Mania 25 then there will be a bigger riot than the ECW riot that was in the works.

That's why I'd do Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels.
Sure Taker would still be the hometown boy, since HBK is from San Antonio, but they are both texans.
It'll be called the Showdown at Sundown.

Honestly, at times, I thought Edge might just get the win. Lost in the moment, maybe but still.
Edge/'Taker wasn't nearly as plodding and inevitable as, say, Henry/'Taker. The latter is what they need to avoid, they can keep doing the former as much as they wish.

Just to clarify, Cena wouldn't win. At all. Never. Taker's keeping the streak no matter what. But all I'm saying is they keep making it difficult to spice it up and make it seem more important. But I'll disagree, Cena wouldn't get boo'd THAT much. Cena got mega popped by most of the fans in Madison Square Garden when he returned before the New York fans raised their voices again. Honestly, at times, I thought Edge might just get the win. Lost in the moment, maybe but still. Edge/'Taker wasn't nearly as plodding and inevitable as, say, Henry/'Taker. The latter is what they need to avoid, they can keep doing the former as much as they wish. I do agree that they executed the match excellently for Taker/Edge. They both looked really awesome after it. But all I'm saying is, instead of having a Taker/Henry or a Taker/Kane (WM 20), how about having a Taker/Edge with both men wanting to retain their streaks?

I see a Taker/HBK match next year at WM 25, which would be all kinds of awesome especially if HBK makes that heel turn. Could possibly be Taker's last match as well. I like the idea of Cena/Taker, but HBK sounds so much better.

Most of the big time matches, vs. HHH/Orton/Batista/Edge had moments where it looked liked Taker could have lost. No one really thought that Henry or Kane at 20 had a chance of beating him.

Undertaker isnt from houston, he's from death valley...DUHH D'oh! That's the place near Parts Unknown isn't it? 20 miles from WCW Special Forces? But just to add, I'm not talking about the matches. The matches were epic but the point is more about the fueds leading to those matches. It's mostly fueled with the same sort of thing we get usually and I was think of a way they could have spiced it up if they didn't have Cena pinned last night. Taker could have a good match with anyone, pretty much (except Mark Henry...and Khali...and Giant Gonzalez...).

Just once I'd like to see some sadistic heel say that his interest isn't to end the streak, but rather beat down Taker so hard and so violently, that even if he doesn't win, the Phenom will be so mentally broken that it'll be his last Wrestlemania ever.
"Maybe I won't snap the streak, but when that match is over they won't be talking about the streak, they'll asking if you'll ever wrestle again."

The basis of Mankind/Undertaker, was that Mankind was intent on hurting somebody who couldn't be hurt.

Well, it's hard to drive up much interest in an Undertaker WM feud because you know now he's going to win. As his career winds to a close, you might have more dramatics because you don't know whether the WWE wants the streak to end or not.

Wow, that was one of the best WM 25 proposed ME I've heard this weekend. The other of course, was Rock VS Cena. I'd like to propose Austin VS Cena at WM25

Cena doesn't have a streak anymore... I really thought that when Undertaker finally retires, Cena would be the one carrying the streak at WrestleMania.
