I was doing backflips upon backflips when I saw that preview in the winter of 2000. Unfortunately, they had to build a two-hour movie around the fifteen-minute battle scene that the trailer was advertising.
I remember seeing this preview and having it race through my mind for the duration of whatever movie it was attached to. The options were limitless as to what or who could've been attacking that girl. And then I saw the extended commercial for it about a month later and just rolled my eyes after realizing it was just another weak teen horror movie.

I remember thinking Van Helsing looked pretty cool from the trailers. Yeah, my bad.

I don't get it. At all. It's kind of a small horse, I mean what am I missing? Am I crazy?

I remember thinking Van Helsing looked pretty cool from the trailers. Yeah, my bad. It's a decent movie to watch when you're wide-awake at 2 am, and there's nothing else on. Ok, not exactly a ringing endorsement.

I thought of Any Given Sunday as soon as I saw this thread. Not saying it was disgustingly awful, but that trailer was pretty freaking awesome and the movie didn't match up -- the preview was like watching The 300 before that movie was even *thought of*.

I agree with this. That trailer, seeing it in theaters, especially with the Kid Rock song blaring at top volume....MAN. the NFL only WISHES it could do promo pieces like THAT! EDIT: Found the trailer.

I thought the movie was ok but the trailer was way more kickass then the movie itself.

Final Fantasy... both. When will I learn. Odds are I'll get excited for the third one too =/ I was actually a big fan of both FF movies. Even saw TSW in theatres...but I realize I'm in a minority there. Still thought it was an excellent flick. I saw TSW in the movie theatres. It wasn't a bad movie, it was a fairly standard flick, in fact a little too standard. But I didn't go to the movie for an amazing storyline, I went for the pretties. Advent Children was pretty. It's storyline was... odd. Ultimately it was slick fan service. That said: I liked them both.

After the first two, I was pumped! But alas the movie was disappointing.

I LOVED Cloverfield! Though, I have to give this to The Village. The trailer was NOTHING like the movie. The trailer was for a horror film, the movie was a romance film. What this guy said.

One that wasn't mentioned yet (and I am probably alone on) is Smokin Aces. The trailer made it look like a hilarious nonstop action movie. Instead it was a lot slower paced than advertised and home to one of the worst twists I have ever witnessed in a movie.

300.
Now, the movie itself is still kinda cool on a style-over-substance level, but it just couldn't top that perfectly awesome trailer.

I've got a few more...
And before I get started, allow me to say that I have thoroughly enjoyed this thread. I'm a big fan of movie trailers, especially teasers and rare trailers, so I'm really liking this stroll down memory lane.
Anyhoo, here are a few of mine inductions...
THAT is how a horror trailer is done. Creepy music, a quick jump scene (when the foot stomps in front of the screen), and the feeling of hopelessness as you, the viewer, are dragged to your assumed fate...and then the movie was released. Ugh.
Literally every single "jump" scene was included in that trailer. After seeing it, you basically saw the movie.
Great trailer, inevitably terrible movie.

The American Godzilla film. Indeed. That teaser with the kids at the museum feild trip when the guide talks about the T-Rex being the tallest creature to walk the Earth and then Godzillia's foot stomps on it? Looked smurfing awsome

OK, First off, Prom Night
I remember seeing the trailer and actually thinking that it would be scary whos to trust hollywood horror remakes?
Now, I'm going to get SUPER, SUPER, SUPER, SUPER Blasted for this, but this is honestly just me. Just let me express my opinion without someone having a mental breakdown, ok?
I Hated The Dark Knight.
There, I said it. I went in (Snuck in, THANK GOD), With High expectations. Thinking "OMG, Everyone says it was good, The trailer looks kick ass, Heath Ledgers Last Film, Let me see it!"
I Walked out not even past the first 15 minutes. I Couldn't stand the Bank scene, the random banjk guy who stands up shooting people, the deception among the cronies. It was a mess in my book. The ONLY, ONLY, ONLY!!! Thing that was even remotly cool was the little moment when the old guy after getting shot was saying how villians "respected" the game, then turns out it was the joker, who said "What doesn't kill you, Only makes you stranger..." That was honestly the only cool thing in my book. I loved the dark humor, but the rest was just "eh" for me
Hopefully I don't get kicked out of the boards for my opinion, just when I saw this title, not only did PN pop up in my mind, but so did TDK.
