I really don't see the problem with WWE protecting John. He's one the most over and marketable guys WWE has ever had, and he'll most likely continue that for years to come. WWE wants to do nothing to jeopordize that. Sure, sometimes they go overboard, but better safe than sorry. Anyone seriously offended by WWE doing this is just looking for something to complain about, IMO. People have a problem with Cena because he's one of the worst wrestlers in history.

You make it sound like it's fact. Is it because of the dreaded "5 moves of doom" I hear mentioned every so often?

i just think its funny that during the Monday night wars WWF would take shots at WCW for doing the EXACT SAME THING. I remember Jim Ross saying we "value freedom speech with our fans. we let your signs be seen and not take them away like the other guys".

Please do tell how "one of the worst wrestlers in history" can also be "one of the most successful wrestlers in history" The goal of a pro wrestler is to draw money. Cena does that better than anyone. I'd really love for you to expound on your opinion.

Wrestling promotions always protect the image of their top stars. It'd be stupid business not to. The only reason people notice it so much in Cena's case is because he gets a lot more hate than the typical WWE babyface.
To be honest, I don't think his character will ever recover from the hatred he garnered during the late 2005 Superman push. I think most of the Cena hate to this day is just residual hatred from 2005.

Can't blame WWE for protecting Cena's image, he's one of their top dog, but than again, the whole business with the signs is something I don't like personally, doesn't allow for the whole concept of fan interaction with the show, granted inappropriate signs do not apply here.

If the WWE made a CENA SUCKS shirt it would sell huge and Cena would get a huge % cut. That wouldn't be a terrible idea, to play off of the "controversial" aspect of the character. When McMahon and Hogan were feuding in '03, there was an "Anti-Hulkamania" t-shirt, so it's possible.

Who said he was the "wrestling messiah?" He's the best in the world right now, and all-time probably just one notch below the Hogan/Rock/Austin level. Cena will be remembered easily as a top ten talent, all time, if he has longevity.

So for Raw replays of the episode where Trish Stratus returned, they didn't show the signs that said "Cuck Fena" and "We've Cena Nuff." Reminds me of Stalin erasing political rivals out of pictures in which they were with Lenin, as if they had never existed. ("We've Cena Nuff" is NOT EVEN A BIT PROFANE!) What? Are you really comparing WWE to Stalin? Its not like they have never tryed to protect a top star but because its Cena people start saying stupid shit.

That's why Cena matches feel like such an event.
