Not watching Midnight Meat Train when it was on Fear Net On Demand has been one of my biggest snork ups for awhile. I really need to kick myself for missing it. Yeah, you missed a damn good movie. It's not Oscar caliber or anything, but in the realm of horror, it's a **** affair. I would gladly have taken this in every major theater over the boring, dull, and all to cliche' by this point SAW series.

I've never personally been to into SAW and most slasher movies, when it comes to horror I'm more of a monster kind of guy, but damn, I read an actually full synopsis of MMT and read a couple of reviews about it and just wanted to kick myself it sounded good. Glad I didn't make the mistake with Mulberry street when I had the chance.

Watched Sleepaway Camp 2 & 3 recently. Boy were they terrible. Maniac Cop 2 wasn't too bad though. I'll respectfully disagree on the Camp sequels - or at least the second movie. The third one is a little forgettable, but I absolutely love Unhappy Campers. To me, the flick is pure genius - it's just so ridiculously over-the-top and exaggerated, with an Angela played with such gusto by Pamela "Yes, my brother is Bruce" Springsteen, that I can't help but have a smile on my face when I'm watching it. Sleepaway Camp 2 was actually the single biggest influence on a horror script that I wrote called Commencement - which is the living embodiment of every bad slasher cliche known to man. ;D I may have liked them a little more had I seen them on DVD instead of on TV. Who knows?

I really need to track Midnight Meat Train down - I've now officially heard nothing but good things about it.
And if they kept the original short story's unbelievably horrific, and downright grotesque, ending intact, I'm in for one HELL of a final scene.
Also...thanks everyone for posting in this thread. Just...a...few...more...pages...and then my dream of getting this thing locked and starting a Friday the 13th-like franchise is alive. ;D

I still want to kick Joe Drake in the teeth for what he did to that and Repo. Talk about bush league BS.
And I did like MMT. It's not a perfect movie, a lot of the stuff with Ben and his girlfriend really drags, but when he starts to become obsessed with Mahogany and the gore really starts flying, it picks up. And thank god they didn't pull many punches with the ending. Kitamura-san did a very good job establishing the look and direction of the movie. Hopefully, the movie finds it's market on DVD (although I honestly wish it didn't make a dime for Lionsgate.)

Why did no one tell me Ryuhei Kitamura directed Midnight Meat Train?! I loved "Versus" and enjoyed "Alive." I'd heard some good stuff about MMT, but now I think I'm gonna have to pick it up.

Never seen any of the Maniac Cop movies but I did like the second Sleepaway Camp I enjoy both the second and third sleepaway camps, but I enjoy them on the level of cheesy 80's fun. If you are looking for the exorcist type thrills and chills then no these movies are not that. I desire to see Maniac Cop 2, but being the snob I am I want a new unrated dvd release. Glad to hear you enjoyed it!

The Sleepaway Camp series is just one of those weird things that's tailor-made to have a cult following. The first movie's unforgettable ending, the second and third movie's truly landmark performances by Pam Springsteen, and the extremely clever and downright hilarious satire of the second film are all things in this series that just make viewers feel that, by watching them, they're in on one hell of a secret.
I LOVE the Camp series, obviously. It might even be my second favorite movie series of all time behind Friday.

All the Midnight Meat Train talk has really got me in a Clive Barker mood. As The Artist Formerly Known as Erisi said a few pages back, there's been some quality movies made from his work - from Hellraiser to Candyman to Nightbreed and so on and so forth.
Still, does anyone here remember Rawhead Rex? It was a movie that was adapted by Barker himself from his own short story. You know, there have been some excellent movies that are based on short stories (1408 is the first horror flick that comes to mind for me), but this story definitely suffers from drawn-out-itis. But hey, we all have to start somewhere.
Please tell me that someone else has seen this movie in all of its "devil guy pissing on a priest's face" glory. ;D

Oh, Rawhead Rex...what a movie. I agree about "Drawn-out-itis" as it is really easy to just wakl away, do something, and come back without really being behind in the story.
O'Brien's shouts of "Rawhead...they call him RAWHEAD!" and "Kill me....I HOPE!" were unintentionally hilarious. Well, plenty of the parts fell under that category for me.
Barker hated it and has no problem talking about how he wasn't happy with the final result. I can understand why as the movie comes out as nothing much else than a monster-on-the-loose movie compared to whatever underlying idea he had in mind.

Although, as Creepy said in his review, you have to applaud Lionsgate for allowing that commentary track wherein Kitamura and Barker EVISCERATE Joe Drake to be released at all. That showed balls.

Eh, I dunno if it shows balls. There have been a few commentaries that have been released where the commentators have said things critical of the studios. I'd like to think it was more either Drake didn't care or know, since it was a lowly horror movie.

One of the funnier movie reviews that Matt has done. www.x-entertainment.com/articles/0802/index.htmlRawhead Rex was a movie that was screwed over by two things: (1) a budget not befitting Barker's screenplay, and (2) acting so horrendous that the overall levels of suckness in the acting department would not be approached until Gigli. And no, I'm not exaggerating - the main protagonist in Rawhead Rex is just bad beyond compare. It takes his freaking KID DYING (and, to me, killing a kid in any movie is a fairly major deal) for us to feel ANYTHING toward him because he's so wooden. Also, what have we got for horror flicks on the horizon? If nothing else, the Nicholas Cage film Knowing should be good for some unintentional hilarity due to its (apparent) epic badness.
