Of course it matters. Even if he didn't produce it, he'd want to know if there's a way to exploit it. He's done the same in the past (Edge in one of the Highlander films, for example). Let's not forget the weeks on end hype put behind Triple H in Blade Trinity. Oh yeah. Wonder why there was no "Southland Tales" hype (Yeah, I'm too much a smart ass for my own good sometimes)

I went to a special screening in SF and really enjoyed this.It plays a lot like "Beyond the Mat" with Mickey Rourke being Jake Roberts but not quite as bad.he looks like something in between Lex Luger and heavy Metal Van Hammer. It captures the indy wrestling scene perfectly.Yes Marisa Tomei is naked in it a lot!Love those nippple piercings!
At the screening I went to the director and Ms. Tomei were there in person doing a Q&A with the audience. There's another free screening this Tuesday I'm going to but I haven't heard an official nation wide release date. I didn't like the ending but I won't spoil it but I will say this film has my 3 favorite things:Wrestling,Strippers, and Heavy Metal music!!!

Lex Luger was able to attend the movie premiere of "The Wrestler" this past Tuesday in Los Angeles. After suffering a nerve impingement in his neck that led to temporary paralysis last year, Luger is now able to walk on his own with the aid of a cane. Luger was flown in to take part in a roundtable discussion with Diamond Dallas Page, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake, and Greg "The Hammer" Valentine regarding issues in wrestling. The discussion will be seen on the Fox Searchlight "The Wrestler" website (www.foxsearchlight.com/thewrestler) in the near future. Mickey Rourke stated in a recent interview that he patterned his wrestler look for the movie after Luger, which should explain why the former WCW Champion was flown in. DDP has posted a new message on his website talking about the roundtable discussion, attending "The Wrestler" premiere, seeing Luger, and more. There's also photos from his recent encounters, including ones with Luger, whose down to around 170 pounds these days. In his next message, he plans on writing about how Luger's doing these days.

Darren Aronofsky said in an interview that the original plan was to offer this movie to WWE Studios, and have a current WWE wrestler play the main role. Thank goodness that never came off.

Thank Robocop for that. If WWE did make this film it would of ended up being 'No Holds Barred II: Wrestlers Superstars WWE Universe On Patrol'.

From Alvarez and this week's F4W newsletter:
"Vince McMahon got his private screening of the movie this week. I don't know what he said to Aronofsky immediately after the film ended, or what he told him to his face, but apparently his private reaction was such that "the word negative isn't strong enough to describe Vince's reaction." One person noted, "No surprise because Vince's vision of the 2008 image of wrestling and even fading stars directly contradicts what The Wrestler accurately portrays." Others who know him knew going in that this was the kind of movie he was going to abhor."
Not surprising, but still sad to see Vince living in his little bubble of what he thinks the wrestling business as a whole really is (which, of course, is far from true).

Vince needs to grow up and accept that the guys outside of the WWE have to live like that.

I know it's kinda late, but I feel like I'm one of the only people who isn't as interested in this movie, mostly cause I prefer my wrestling movies to be comedies like the great "Body Slam" and "Ready to Rumble". I'll probably catch it on DVD, though, cause it has some interest for me. BTW, on another topic everyone's favorite Fallen Angel was at the premiere of this thing: www.gerweck.net/news/1230083707.shtml

Good to see Daniels out and about. I haven't seen or heard of him wrestling on the Indy circuit. Maybe he took a short sabbatical?

Good to see Daniels out and about. I haven't seen or heard of him wrestling on the Indy circuit. Maybe he took a short sabbatical? He's been doing shows in Japan and had a few matches in PWG, so he's kept in pretty good shape.
